  • The game’s massive scope with new enemies, bosses, and mechanics may justify the long development time, but fans crave a status update.
  • Team Cherry should provide a detailed update or at least confirm a release window to ease fans’ growing impatience and doubts.

As a long-time fan of Hollow Knight, I can’t help but feel like I’ve been waiting for Silksong since the dawn of time itself. The anticipation has become a roller coaster ride, with hopes and doubts constantly oscillating like the pendulum on a clock. It feels like Team Cherry is keeping us hanging by a thread here, and it’s starting to fray.

The long-awaited follow-up to Team Cherry’s hit 2017 game, Metroidvania-style title Hollow Knight, titled Hollow Knight: Silksong, has become a hotbed of memes since its announcement more than five years ago, offering little to no substantial updates. Some fans have speculated whether Silksong is real or just an elaborate prank by Team Cherry, but the developer quelled those doubts when it confirmed the game’s development in March 2024. A playtester reportedly confirmed Silksong’s development in June 2024, assuring us that it isn’t stuck in development limbo. Despite this confirmation, fans remain anxious and increasingly skeptical about whether Silksong will ever be released.

Amidst the persistent doubts and vocal worries about whether Hollow Knight: Silksong can withstand the challenges it’s faced, it’s crucial for it to build more goodwill before its launch. Although releasing immediately might be the best course of action, fans could benefit from reassuring updates from Team Cherry about the current progress of Silksong. However, this update should go beyond just explaining where Silksong stands in development. Fans are eagerly awaiting a specific release date for the game as well, so providing a tentative launch window would be highly appreciated.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Needs an Update and Release Window Announcement ASAP

Hollow Knight: Silksong Needs to Announce Its Release Window By the End of the Year

By the year’s end, it’s increasingly clear that “Hollow Knight: Silksong” won’t debut this year unless Team Cherry surprises us with a sudden release later on. With no significant updates regarding the game and no signs of its launch in sight, it seems unlikely we’ll see it in 2024. However, by the time 2024 concludes, we should at least have an official announcement about when “Silksong” will be released, whether that’s in 2025 or 2026.

Something to consider is that Silksong has been confirmed to be significantly larger than its predecessor, with 150 new enemies, plenty of challenging bosses, friendly NPCs to meet, and new towns, quests, tools, and secrets. It could very well be that Silksong is the size of Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree combined at this point, with how long it has been in development. As such, it could still need more time in the oven. However, that doesn’t necessarily disqualify it from getting a release window.

Hollow Knight: Silksong at Least Needs a Detailed Update From Team Cherry

Given that Silksong is yet to announce a definite release date, it would be beneficial for Team Cherry to provide a more comprehensive update on the game’s progress. They have been transparent about the development of Silksong, ensuring us that work continues on the title. To keep fans informed and manage expectations, a more precise statement could be helpful, such as an estimated timeframe or milestone for the game’s completion. At the same time, it is reasonable to understand why a developer might hesitate to set public deadlines due to the unforgiving nature of today’s release environment.

Regardless of whether an update on Hollow Knight: Silksong comes soon or not, the hope is that it will accomplish what it initially set out to do. The first Hollow Knight has proven to be one of the best Metroidvania titles ever made, which means Silksong has a high bar to clear. In light of that, perhaps it should be shown a bit more mercy. On the other hand, the bait was set with its announcement five years ago, and it’s time to reel it in.
