As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement as I glance at the revamped Steam page for Hollow Knight: Silksong. This update, timed perfectly for Summer Game Fest, has ignited a spark of hope in me and many others eagerly awaiting this long-anticipated sequel.

Announced a good six years back, Hollow Knight: Silksong has been a recurring topic of conversation among gamers, often jokingly referred to as a meme. With so many years passing, some of us had started to wonder if we’d ever get to explore this intriguing world that Team Cherry has promised us. But with each new update, my faith in seeing this game in action grows stronger.

The journey of creating ‘Silksong’ has been prolonged; initially, Team Cherry announced its release in 2023. However, following a delay, there was little news from the studio for almost a year until an update in January 2025. As per Matthew Griffin, head of marketing and publishing at Team Cherry, development on ‘Hollow Knight: Silksong’ is ongoing, yet specifics remain undisclosed. Fans became disheartened when the game wasn’t showcased at either Gamescom 2024 or The Game Awards 2024. Yet, it seems the wait for ‘Silksong’ might soon end, as substantial advancements have been made in secret before this year’s summer events.

According to Eurogamer‘s report, Twitter user Wario64 posted images from SteamDB indicating recent updates for the game Hollow Knight: Silksong. Notably, one package has been modified after a 15-month period of inactivity. Meanwhile, Reddit user TomNook5058 reported that a version of Silksong is now on Steam’s servers. Although Team Cherry hasn’t issued an official statement yet, some fans speculate that they might announce the release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong during Summer Game Fest or even “shadow drop” it after the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Updated on Steam Ahead of Summer Game Fest and Switch 2 Release

It’s not certain if these Steam updates indicate any upcoming actions or not, but modifications to the Metroidvania’s files so near to one of gaming’s major presentations and the possible release of the Switch 2 have raised suspicions among many fans. Despite no official worldwide release date being announced yet, a playable version of Hollow Knight: Silksong will be accessible at ACMI, Australia’s national museum of screen culture in September. Sections of the game will be displayed as part of the Game Worlds exhibition, which will feature concept art and interactive displays from approximately 30 titles.

On June 6, at 5 PM Eastern Time or 2 PM Pacific Time, enthusiasts are invited to join Summer Game Fest for a sneak peek at several highly anticipated games coming out over the next year and beyond. Some of the highlighted titles include “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” “Wuchang: Fallen Feathers,” “Chrono Odyssey,” “The Outer Worlds 2,” and numerous others. There’s even speculation that “Resident Evil 9” might be unveiled during the event.
