Hollow Knight: Silksong Goes Full Nightmare Difficulty With New Mod

A new mod for *Hollow Knight: Silksong* actually *increases* the game’s already significant challenge. The highly anticipated sequel to Team Cherry’s popular *Hollow Knight* has been incredibly well-received, and fans immediately started creating mods to customize the experience. While many mods focus on difficulty, this one aims to make the game even harder than it already is.

The original *Hollow Knight* was known for being a challenging game, especially when it came to jumping and navigating levels. It appears the upcoming sequel, *Silksong*, will be even more difficult. The developers, Team Cherry, intentionally made *Silksong* harder to reflect the game’s story and setting, as the main character, Hornet, is meant to be a more agile and capable fighter than the Knight. While some players might find the tough enemies and tricky platforming frustrating, others believe the game could be even more demanding.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Mod Introduces Crest That Removes Hornet’s Cloak and Needle

A new mod for *Hollow Knight: Silksong*, called Crest Master, introduces a harder difficulty setting. It does this by giving players a crest that removes Hornet’s cloak and needle, forcing a more challenging playstyle. Players already experience similar conditions in the game’s The Slab area, where Hornet loses all her equipment and relies on basic movement and kicks. But while The Slab eventually restores her gear, this mod’s Cloakless crest extends that difficulty throughout the entire game. This means facing bosses with reduced movement options and dealing only about 20% of normal damage.

Crest Master isn’t just a new difficulty level; it’s designed to let players quickly change between crests—all seven from *Silksong*, plus a new one added by the mod—without having to rest at a bench. This instant switching is a big benefit, as each crest gives you different ways to move and fight. Usually, players have to pick a crest that fits how they like to play or change them depending on the situation, weighing the pros and cons of each. Crest Master eliminates those difficult decisions.

Interestingly, most fans haven’t been focusing on what the Crest Master is *supposed* to do. Instead, they’re much more interested in the crest that doesn’t have a cloak. It’s a bit ironic that Team Cherry has been working on ways to make *Silksong* more accessible, while some fans are actively trying to find ways to make the game more challenging.
