The long-awaited game, “Hollow Knight: Silksong,” has finally arrived, and I must admit, I’m relishing every moment I get to play it. When I’m not occupied with work or immersed in other significant releases of 2025, you can find me engrossed in “Hollow Knight: Silksong.” Each minute spent on this game is a thrilling, though sometimes challenging, experience. It’s hard to believe that it’s actually here after its trailer was first shown over six years ago and then seemed to disappear until recently. There were concerns that it might have been an extended April Fool’s prank, but it turned out that Team Cherry had simply been having too much fun creating it-a situation far more delightful than a prolonged development cycle.

As Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally arrived, my thoughts have been wandering to other long-awaited sequels that seem to be taking forever to materialize. Of course, The Elder Scrolls 6 is like an enormous elephant in the room, as Todd Howard described it nine years ago, but I’ve chosen to keep it at arm’s length until we hear more definitive updates about its release. However, there’s another sequel that I’ve been eagerly anticipating for over a decade now – one that was teased five years ago via a trailer and hasn’t had much news since then. That highly-anticipated sequel is none other than the next Mass Effect game.

The Next Mass Effect Was Teased 5 Years Ago

For five years now, fans have eagerly awaited news about the next Mass Effect game, and it’s been thirteen years since the release of Mass Effect 3. Although we did get Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2017, the upcoming Mass Effect promises to carry on the storyline of the original trilogy. Interestingly, Liara T’Soni will be the central character in this new game, implying that it will follow on from the events of Mass Effect 3 rather than Andromeda. The title of the new game – whether it will be Mass Effect 4, Mass Effect 5, or simply Mass Effect – remains to be seen, but what matters is that we may finally get the sequel fans have been yearning for since the satisfying conclusion of Mass Effect 3 left room for further storytelling.

The consistent challenge with extending that story has always been the preference given to one ending over others, which can diminish the choices made by players who opted for different conclusions. However, at this point, I no longer care about such concerns. All I want is more of the Mass Effect universe, and with Liara T’Soni as the central figure, my enthusiasm for it has only intensified. The issue is that my excitement has been delayed for quite some time now, as the next Mass Effect game has been in development for five years, primarily in its early stages.

After Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Eventual Release, I’m Not Giving Up on Mass Effect

Despite the fact that Mass Effect is still in the development phase, the arrival of Hollow Knight: Silksong has taught me a valuable lesson: I should never lose faith in a game until it’s officially canceled. After a long wait of over 8 years following the release of Hollow Knight, its sequel has finally been released, and surprisingly, it’s only been the same amount of time since Mass Effect Andromeda. This at least gives me a glimmer of hope for the future of Mass Effect.

Despite the high acclaim that Hollow Knight: Silksong has received, I remain optimistic that the next Mass Effect game will also boast exceptional quality, given BioWare and EA’s history. Although they’ve faced difficulties due to layoffs in the development process, I hope the remaining team working on it is enjoying their work as much as Team Cherry did while creating Silksong. Regardless, the emergence of another successful indie game like Silksong makes a new Mass Effect release seem more plausible than ever before.
