Enthusiastic Hollow Knight fans have spotted that GameStop has listed Silksong on Nintendo Switch for $19.99, a price which has left many questioning whether it could be just a tentative price tag. Given the high anticipation surrounding the game in 2025, some find it hard to believe Team Cherry would set such a low price for one of the year’s most awaited titles.
Users have noted they’ve attempted to purchase Hollow Knight: Silksong using the displayed price, however, the transaction seems to fail or not process.
Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Just $19.99?
A recent post on the Hollow Knight subreddit unveiled that GameStop is set to sell the upcoming game for an affordable price of $19.99.
Upon its release in 2017, Hollow Knight initially cost only $14.99, making it an affordable gem from a tiny development team known as Team Cherry. Their intention was to make the game available to a wider audience, a practice that is still followed by some small studios today.
The lowest price Hollow Knight dropped to is around $5.99.
As a dedicated admirer, I found myself questioning the price tag on Reddit, as some users were perplexed that Team Cherry wasn’t leveraging the game’s popularity to ask for more. One user voiced their thoughts, saying, ‘I was prepared to shell out 40 bucks. Am I off my rocker? I may not be as hardcore a fan as you all, but it seems to be the going rate for top-notch games, particularly sequels of much-loved originals.’
Several people argued that Team Cherry doesn’t necessarily have to increase prices as they already possess significant wealth, thanks to the success of Hollow Knight.
Another user pointed out how the price is potentially harmful to subscription services:
Wild if true.
If you’re considering playing the game using Game Pass, there’s not much incentive to do so if you’re already paying for it elsewhere. Given that PC Game Pass costs $12 per month and Xbox Game Pass costs $15, spending a few extra dollars to own the game permanently seems like a logical choice, doesn’t it?
Silksong” is set to launch on September 4, following several long years of patient anticipation. Would you be interested in purchasing it regardless of the cost? Please share your thoughts on the TopMob forum.
