Team Cherry has detailed the upcoming Hollow Knight: Silksong update, which is now accessible for beta testers, though with a few restrictions. This new version includes improved controller compatibility and several Hollow Knight: Silksong bug fixes, as well as other new features.
October 4th will be one month since the incredibly popular release of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Since the launch, Team Cherry has published two updates for the acclaimed metroidvania game. Both updates first appeared on Steam and GOG as part of the game’s beta program, and then were made available to all players.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Update 3 Promises Expanded Controller Support and More
The latest update follows the same trend, becoming available for the GOG and Steam editions of Hollow Knight: Silksong on September 27th. Much of this experimental version focuses on improving controller compatibility, now including Sony’s DualSense Edge. According to the patch notes, the macOS version now supports more controllers with this release, although specific models and drivers aren’t detailed.

Also, the latest Hollow Knight: Silksong update addresses some minor controller problems, and a more significant issue: the game didn’t pause when a gamepad disconnected. Many players frequently experience controller disconnections – often due to dead batteries – and the missing auto-pause feature led to complaints online, as it caused players to lose progress.

The next update fixes a rare bug that could permanently curse players. Without giving away any major story details, this problem appears during Hollow Knight: Silksong Act 2. Team Cherry had already fixed several similar issues before this update. The new patch notes suggest this specific bug is now completely gone. Based on previous updates, this fix should apply to existing saves, meaning players won’t need to reload an older save file or start a new game to benefit from it.
There’s still no confirmed release date for the third Hollow Knight: Silksong update. The previous two updates were in beta testing for just a few days before becoming fully released, so we anticipate this update will follow a similar pattern, likely arriving between late September and early October 2025. For now, PC players can test an experimental version by joining the game’s beta program. On Steam, you can do this by right-clicking the game in your library, selecting Properties, and then choosing to join the public beta through the Betas tab. If you use GOG, you’ll need to install the (optional) GOG Galaxy launcher first. After installing it, you can enable the beta branch by going to the Manage Installation menu, selecting Configure, and then accessing the beta channel within the Installation section.
