Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Gamescom Demo Carries The Weight of the World

At the summer events of 2025, players eagerly anticipated updates on various games, old and new. However, one highly anticipated title that seemed to miss out on the excitement was “Hollow Knight: Silksong”, the sequel to the original “Hollow Knight” by Team Cherry. Since its announcement in 2019, this Metroidvania game has been notoriously hard to find. The last significant trailer for “Hollow Knight: Silksong” was showcased during the 2022 Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, with a promise that it would be released within the next year. While the game made appearances at both the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct and the Xbox Games Showcase a few months ago, no release date or additional gameplay footage were provided.

Despite some fans’ doubts, it appears that Hollow Knight: Silksong is expected to come out this year. As the end of 2025 draws closer, fans are worried that the game might be pushed back to 2026 or later, but recent developments related to Gamescom have made such a delay seem less probable.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Being Playable at Gamescom 2025 is a Big Deal

Microsoft Confirmed that Silksong Will Be Playable at Its Upcoming Gamescom Booth

This week, Microsoft announced its plans for Gamescom 2025 through the official Xbox Wire blog. Not only are they arranging live broadcasts on Xbox @ Gamescom on August 20 and 21, but they will also have a booth at the event, offering more than 20 games to try out. One of these games is none other than “Hollow Knight: Silksong.” As per Microsoft, attendees of Gamescom will have an opportunity to test a new demo of “Silksong,” which can be played on either PC or ROG Xbox Ally.

Silksong’s New Demo Will Probably Contain a Lot More Content than Its Previous One

It’s quite astonishing that a demo for Hollow Knight: Silksong exists now, given that the last time a public demo was available was at E3 2019. Since then, over six years have passed, so it’s likely that this new demo will offer more advanced features and significant differences compared to the one released in 2019.

Team Cherry has assured us that in Hollow Knight: Silksong, there will be more than 165 fresh enemies and twice as many checkpoints compared to the initial Hollow Knight. Given its expansive appearance, it’s likely that the demo at Gamescom will offer a substantial amount of content. With Hollow Knight: Silksong set to release soon, the demo might give players an opportunity to play through the early stages of the game rather than just a few selected gameplay segments.

Another Hollow Knight: Silksong Demo Will Be Available to the Public in Australia Later This Year

For individuals who can’t make it to Gamescom in Cologne, Germany this year, there’s good news! A playable demo of the anticipated game Hollow Knight: Silksong will also be accessible to the public at another location – an exhibit at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne, Australia, starting this September. While it’s uncertain if this demo will mirror the one showcased at Xbox’s Gamescom booth, Team Cherry has confirmed that the exhibit will showcase concept art and other design elements from the game. The release of these demos hints that gamers may not have to wait much longer to get their hands on the complete game.
