As a seasoned gamer with decades worth of experience under my belt, I must say that the new character Yi Xing from Honor of Kings has piqued my interest. Coming from a rich backstory inspired by the strategic game of Weiqi, this Mage hero seems like a formidable addition to any team.
A new installment focusing on the massive online game, Honor of Kings, has dropped for Amazon Prime’s Secret Level show, introducing a fresh character.
In this episode, titled “The Way Of All Things,” written by JT Petty based on S.L. Huang’s short story of the same name, we delve into a fresh character named Yi Xing within the Honor of Kings universe. This captivating tale follows Yi Xing from his early years learning the intricate game of Weiqi (known as Go beyond China’s borders), to his proficiency in the game, and ultimately his need to employ those skills to win a crucial match that determines the fate of Chang’an city.

In “The Way of All Things”, players aren’t just given a chance to explore Yi Xing’s background; he’s the most recent addition to the Honor of Kings team as a Hero. As a Mage, Yi Xing excels in the mid-lane and offers crucial support during team fights, thanks to his potent area control and burst damage skills. Moreover, when paired with Lu Bu, he becomes particularly lethal against opponents, dishing out heavy attacks.
Incorporating Yi Xing into Honor of Kings introduces a Weiqi-influenced gaming strategy, as well as opportunities for cosplay and immersive social interactions with characters hailing from the society of Yaotian.
Yi Xing has four skills, explained in the press release as follows:
- Kiai: Yi Xing periodically becomes immune to lethal damage. His skills apply a “Anti-Qi” mark on enemy heroes upon hitting them, enhancing his own abilities.
- Joseki: Places a Weiqi counter at a designated location, granting vision of the area for three seconds and dealing magic damage.
- Atari：Deals magic damage to a designated area, then spreads to form a Weiqi formation. Enemies within the central area are pulled toward the center of the formation, dealing additional magic damage.
- Capture: Yi Xing creates an empty Weiqi board to trap enemy heroes.
