Horikoshi Admitted My Hero Academia Almost Ended After This Iconic Fight

This article contains spoilers up to the end of My Hero Academia season 7

The animated series “My Hero Academia” is celebrated for its charming character lineup and distinctive style, but it’s also gained global acclaim due to its exhilarating action sequences. Fans have been captivated by Deku and the other formidable heroes from UA High as they’ve fought against powerful villains numerous times throughout the story. Although these skirmishes were building up to a grand Final War, which unfolded after over 400 chapters, it appears that the series wasn’t initially planned to span this length, at least not in terms of technical production.

Kohei Horikoshi, creator of “My Hero Academia”, has been candid about his creative process since he started the series. Although he admitted that he didn’t initially anticipate the manga would continue for as long as it has, there was a specific battle in the story he once suggested could have served as an ideal ending. Upon revisiting this pivotal battle, it’s challenging not to concur with his perspective.

A Fiery Clash Between Rivals Almost Marked The End Of The Story

Talk About Going Out With A Bang

  • All Might and All For One clashed early on in the story
  • This fight forced All Might to sacrifice the remeaining embers of One For All

In a memorable moment for any “My Hero Academia” enthusiast, the long-anticipated confrontation between All Might and his arch-nemesis All For One unfolds. This unavoidable battle takes place when All Might, along with other Pro Heroes, attempt to rescue Bakugo from the League of Villains. By this stage in the story, All Might was hanging on to the remaining strength of One For All, making him aware that this fight might be his last opportunity to vanquish the villain who had wreaked havoc for years. Many viewers agree that this battle is one of the most thrilling in the entire series.

In a final showdown, All For One inflicts significant damage with his array of potent abilities. However, All Might, exerting every ounce of energy left within him, unleashes a series of powerful blows to finally subdue the deranged villain. Despite emerging victorious, this battle exacts a heavy toll on All Might, as it drains the last vestiges of One For All’s power from his body, leaving him essentially powerless and ordinary afterward.

Observing the intense battle between the strongest hero and villain, it was unexpected to witness such a full-throttle confrontation so early in the series, considering there seemed to be plenty of untold stories ahead. Yet, as the narrative of My Hero Academia progressed beyond this fight, Horikoshi, the creator, subtly suggested that this could have been his initial conclusion for the story when he first began writing it.

My Hero Academia’s Success Pushed Horikoshi To Go Further

Much To The Joy Of Fans, The Author Continued Expanding The World And Characters Thanks To Positive Feedback

During a 2018 interview, when the “My Hero Academia” anime was still relatively new, Horikoshi was asked about his feelings towards writing the intense clash between All Might and All For One, and how it felt to see this battle animated after it had been fully animated. His response provides insight, as he expressed a desire to make this fight both significant and unforgettable given its impact on All Might’s character, but also admitted that he aimed to make fans feel like the story was reaching its climax with this confrontation.

Kohei Horikoshi aimed to convince readers that My Hero Academia might conclude during this battle…during the survey period, there were many positive reviews, leading him to believe that the manga won’t be treated as a mere single issue.

In truth, such a climactic battle would have made for a satisfying conclusion to the captivating narrative, but it’s evident that Horikoshi had crafted a world with so much untapped potential for exploration. Simultaneously, he acknowledges the series was garnering an incredible outpouring of praise and support from fans, motivating him to further develop the storyline to discover where it might lead next.

It’s worth noting that “My Hero Academia” is the third manga series penned by Horikoshi. The first two didn’t garner much attention upon their release in Shonen Jump. Given this, it was likely that the author didn’t expect the series to become as successful as it did. However, fortunately, it turned out to be a massive success. This significant turning point plays a crucial role in Horikoshi’s journey as an author, and interestingly, a fight from this pivotal moment has been incorporated into the latest season of the anime.

All Might And All For One Are Facing Off Once Again

And This Time, It Really Is The Final Showdown

  • All Might and All For One duke it out once again in the Final War
  • All Might may be Quirkless, but he’s got a deadly suit of armor to help him out
  • All For One is powerful, but his body is reverting too quickly

It’s quite appropriate that the decisive battle, which initially appeared to be the climax of the tale, resurfaces as the grand finale of the series. Despite losing his Quirk, All Might has miraculously regained enough power with his Support Gear to stand toe-to-toe with his archenemy one last time. In a stunning display, he equips his suit with numerous devices that mimic the powers of the Class 1-A students, demonstrating in the finale of season 7 that he’s not only equipped with enough firepower but also capable of taking down the man who assassinated his mentor, no matter how much harm he sustains during the battle.

“To be of service to others…What a joy!” – All Might

Despite having amassed significant power in the story, All For One remains vulnerable due to his Rewind Quirk malfunctioning and leaving his body fragile. However, he poses a threat with various harmful Quirks at his disposal, which could be unleashed instantly. As such, even Mighty-Giant All Might, equipped with his sturdy mech-armor, may find it challenging to inflict any harm on this formidable adversary.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel that this battle isn’t just another round in the series, but a poignant tribute to their initial clash from years gone by. In essence, it seems like All Might and All For One’s last chance to reminisce about their longstanding rivalry. Moreover, this fight serves as Horikoshi’s subtle nod to the incredible journey the series has taken since its modest beginning.
