Sony and Tencent have resolved their legal dispute over the game ‘Light of Motiram’, which was similar to Sony’s ‘Horizon’, and the game has now been removed from online stores.
Sony and Tencent have reached an out-of-court settlement in their legal dispute, which began in August 2025. Sony had accused Tencent of copying its Horizon video game series. The two companies had previously extended the hearing dates, but now the case has been resolved without a trial.
Horizon Clone Lawsuit Confidentially Settled By Sony and Tencent
A recent court filing, as reported by The Game Post, shows that Sony and Tencent have requested the lawsuit against them be dropped. This is contingent on both companies reaching a private settlement agreement. The terms of the settlement will remain confidential, and the case is now officially closed, meaning it cannot be reopened. Both Sony and Tencent will cover their own legal fees.
Because the agreement is private, the specific details aren’t public. However, it appears that removing ‘Light of Motiram’ from sale was likely part of the deal, as it’s no longer available on most online stores.
The legal dispute between Sony and Tencent over the game Light of Motiram was lengthy and contentious. Sony accused the game of being a direct copy, dismissing Tencent’s arguments as invalid. Tencent countered by asserting that popularity doesn’t automatically grant trademark rights. Ultimately, Tencent agreed to temporarily halt promotion and testing of the game, and also won’t release it any earlier than planned. The game’s future remains uncertain.
Besides Horizon Steel Frontiers, there are more Horizon multiplayer games in development.
