As a seasoned gamer who’s been around since the days of Croc and Rayman, I can confidently say that Astro Bot has managed to capture the essence of what made those games so special while adding a fresh coat of paint. The recent DLC has only served to enhance this experience with new speedrun levels and VIP bots.
The delightful platformer game, Astro Bot, has been among the most captivating releases this year, shining a light on some of Sony’s most iconic characters in an enjoyable manner. The latest DLC for Astro Bot includes speedrun levels, VIP bots, but one intriguing modification can be found within its credits. Reddit user AssanChop spotted a curious alteration to the game’s credit sequence that suggests potential appearances of more cameo characters in the future.
The development team Asobi has added Tomba Special Edition to the credits of their game, leading many to speculate that there may be additional Downloadable Content (DLC) for the popular title, Astro Bot. There are several Intellectual Properties (IPs) featured in the credits of Astro Bot that have not yet been integrated into the game. This suggests that there might be more content coming post-launch. If this turns out to be true, it means that players can expect continued updates for Astro Bot, potentially for an extended period of time.
Astro Bot’s Unused Credited Content Could Point to Future Updates
Credited Franchises That Have Yet to Be Featured in Astro Bot
- Assassin’s Creed
- Beyond Good & Evil
- Croc: Legend of the Gobbos
- Rayman
- Tomba Special Edition
- Worms
It’s possible that these unused franchises are leftovers from agreements that didn’t work out in the end because they’re third-party properties. Alternatively, it could be content that Team Asobi decided not to include in their game. If some of these IPs were from deals that didn’t succeed, Team Asobi could have easily taken their names off the credits. Additionally, it wasn’t until after the DLC release that Tomba Special Edition was added to the list.
As a devoted gamer, it’s exciting to consider that six potential franchises could expand in the future, given the remarkable success of Astro Bot. This game’s continued relevance, with regular post-launch updates, seems more than just a possibility. With nearly 200 VIP bots currently in Astro Bot, and Sony’s extensive gaming history, it’s not hard to imagine that number growing significantly.
As I type this, it’s been approximately calculated that the game “Astro Bot” has moved around 1.5 million units since its debut on September 6.
Embracing Sony’s Deep Well of Content
Despite the presence of many popular game references in Astro Bot, there remains a significant amount left unexplored. Notably absent are well-known PlayStation titles such as Twisted Metal and Marvel’s Spider-Man from the platformer. The absence of Spider-Man was quite unexpected, given his popularity as one of Sony’s recent major successes. However, since Marvel is involved, securing a cameo in Astro Bot might not be straightforward.
Astro Bot Can Still Bring Players Great Platforming and Cameos For Years to Come
One of the Year’s Best Games Deserves a Long Life
With 2024 drawing to a close, there’s been much anticipation about which games will compete at this year’s Game Awards. Although the nominees haven’t been officially announced yet, it seems likely that Astro Bot might make the cut. It remains uncertain what lies ahead for Astro Bot, but if Sony manages to showcase a new wave of games, this charming platformer could have an exceptionally bright future ahead.

As the world of gaming continues to rapidly evolve, Astro Bot‘s knack for embracing classic platforming elements in a modern way could be enough to make it a long-lasting title, and ongoing post-launch cameos will only help ensure that.
