How Black Ops 6 Zombies’ Dig Site Map Can Recapture Origins’ Magic

As a dedicated fan of Call of Duty’s Zombies mode since its inception back in World at War, I can confidently say that Treyarch has truly outdone themselves with this latest Dig Site map. With each new Zombies release, they continue to raise the bar and deliver an experience that is not only entertaining but also engaging and memorable.

With my years of playing Call of Duty Zombies, I have come to appreciate the intricate details and thoughtful design that goes into creating these maps. From the unique weaponry and side quests to the intimidating mini-bosses and stunning visuals, each map offers a fresh take on the classic Zombies formula while still remaining true to its roots.

The Dig Site map in particular stands out as one of my favorites due to its complex quest design and standout main quest Easter egg. The ability to battle against a giant Apothicon or fight another foe with the Primis crew in the background is an exciting prospect that I eagerly look forward to experiencing.

Of course, no Zombies map would be complete without some humor, and I have always appreciated Treyarch’s knack for injecting just the right amount of levity into their maps. Whether it’s a clever Easter egg or a well-timed joke, they know how to keep players engaged and entertained throughout their Zombies journey.

In short, as someone who has spent countless hours playing Call of Duty Zombies over the years, I can confidently say that Treyarch has truly hit it out of the park with this latest Dig Site map. If they continue to deliver maps like this in the future, I have no doubt that Call of Duty’s Zombies mode will remain a staple of the franchise for many years to come.

Oh, and let me just say – if you don’t include the return of the Panzer Soldat with its spine-chilling siren in this upcoming map, I might just have to start a petition! (Just kidding… or am I?)

In various polls or personal opinions shared by longtime fans of Call of Duty: Zombies, specific maps consistently rise to the top as favorites. For instance, Alcatraz’s compelling narrative and eerie atmosphere have left a lasting impact, making Mob of the Dead a frequently praised choice. The fully realized, fictional city of Morg City contributes to Shadows of Evil being highly ranked, while the dramatically impressive Stalingrad with its dragon motif has earned Gorod Krovi a place in many fans’ hearts. Der Eisendrache is also often singled out for praise due to factors such as its emotional ending, introduction of the game’s first significant boss fight, and well-designed layout. Additionally, the map’s resemblance to Origins adds to its appeal.

In the last expansion pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Origins marked a daring new chapter for its game mode, introducing outlandish ideas such as multiple dimensions and fresh iterations of beloved characters that captivated players. But even beyond this, it stood out as an exceptional map in its own right. With an awe-inspiring skybox showcasing colossal robots towering above, an imposing mini-boss known as the Panzer Soldat, engaging side missions offering valuable enhancements, and of course, the elemental staffs, Origins is widely regarded as one of the greatest Zombies maps ever created. As a result, anticipation for the next Zombies map in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is running high, with Treyarch intentionally sparking fans’ imagination with references to Origins. However, there are several ways it could live up to these expectations.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies’ Deliberate Wording Backs Treyarch Into a Corner

In the concluding scene of the main quest for Citadelle Des Morts in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies, players were informed by Gabriel Krafft that their next journey would be to an “excavation location” near Avalon. This terminology sparked concern among long-term fans of Call of Duty Zombies, as the most iconic dig site in the game’s history is Excavation Site 64, also known as Origins. Ravenov further emphasized this “excavation site” phrasing, leaving a lasting impression on players’ minds. Given how cherished Origins is among Treyarch veterans like Zombies writer Craig Houston, it seems reasonable to assume that fans would instantly connect this phrase with the Origins map. Furthermore, the presence of an Origins poster in Liberty Falls could be interpreted as a deliberate reference following this new revelation.

As a dedicated fan, I’d like to share an intriguing piece of information that Ravenov hinted at. While his phrasing was casual and might imply that our characters are en route to France, it seems more plausible that he was referring to the dig site itself. Interestingly, leaked maps from Warzone have suggested an excavation site called Avalon, which could very well be the same one we’re expected to explore in the game.

As a dedicated fan, let me clarify that while I’d love for DLC 2 of Black Ops 6 Zombies to be a full-blown remake of Origins, it seems quite improbable. Instead, we might get a chance to delve into a part of the map, much like how Die Maschine incorporated Nacht Der Untoten while still being its unique entity. A complete Origins remake might not be on the table this time around.

The mystical aspects of the Aether story are gradually merging with Dark Aether lore, but it’s hard to envision colossal robots patrolling the landscape. The characters in this new installment would differ from the Primis crew, which could diminish what made Origins so remarkable.

However, even though Black Ops 6 Zombies’ dig site is shaping up to be visually distinct from Origins, it can still capture the same essence that Origins did a decade ago.

How Black Ops 6’s Next Zombies Map Can Be Its Origins Without Exactly Being Origins

To create an Origins-style gaming experience that will be remembered by players for many years, Treyarch has several options at their disposal. Among these are:

1. Developing intriguing and immersive storylines that captivate the imagination of players.
2. Designing levels with a high degree of detail and complexity that challenge and engage players.
3. Crafting compelling characters that players can connect with emotionally.
4. Integrating innovative gameplay mechanics that keep players on their toes and make the experience fresh and exciting.
5. Creating an immersive world filled with Easter eggs, secrets, and hidden treasures for players to discover.

  • Side Easter egg quests with unique rewards: Instead of the modern Call of Duty Zombies formula, where players get salvage, perks, Aether Tools, and points for most quests, these could offer more exciting items. Origins’ free MGO8 LMG, G-strike special grenades, One-Inch-Punch melee upgrade, and golden shovel/helmet are examples of this.
  • Map-exclusive weaponry: Origins had this in droves, from the Mauser starting Pistol and MGO8 LMG to the Scar-H Assault Rifle and KSG Shotgun. A unique Wonder Weapon with its own upgrades is a must, though this can be expected.
  • An intimidating mini-boss: A foe that rarely appears but forces players to adapt when it does show up. Perhaps Treyarch could bring back the Panzer Soldat itself (and its spine-chilling siren) but updated with fresh abilities.
  • Quests for each Zombies player: While it may be too soon for Treyarch to return to the “four elemental Wonder Weapon” formula after Citadelle Des Morts, giving each player something to work on means there is plenty to do within the map and everyone can stay engaged.
  • Unique visuals that stand out from other maps: While something as over-the-top as Origins may not be in the cards, Citadelle Des Morts had beautiful environmental design that suited its bold location, and continuing in that direction would be ideal.

As a die-hard fan who has been playing Call of Duty for over a decade, I can’t help but feel excited about the latest rumors surrounding the upcoming Dig Site map. Being immersed in the Aether storyline since Origins, I’ve always wondered why we never got to experience The Great War despite its pivotal role in the game’s lore. Treyarch has been teasing it since Alpha Omega, and I’m hoping that this upcoming map could finally be their way of making good on that tease.

Imagine being transported through the Sentinel Artifact to The Great War, fighting alongside my favorite characters like Richtofen or Takeo as we battle a giant Apothicon or some other formidable foe. I can almost hear the roar of gunfire and feel the adrenaline pumping as we take on this epic challenge. It would be an incredible experience that would bring back memories of my first encounter with The Great War in Origins.

Moreover, it would also serve as a brilliant way to rekindle fans’ interest in the Primis crew ahead of their rumored return in Call of Duty 2025. I can hardly wait to see what Treyarch has in store for us and hope that they don’t disappoint. If they can deliver on this exciting promise, it could very well be the best Call of Duty map yet!

It’s great that Citadelle Des Morts is a significant advancement for the zombie mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, suggesting that Treyarch could meet these expectations. If they incorporate unique weapons specific to each map, intricate quest designs, and a formidable mini-boss that doesn’t rely on the “strength in numbers” strategy like the Manglers in Black Ops 6, then Treyarch may very well create another classic dig site within their Zombies mode.
