As a seasoned veteran of the Path of Exile universe, I must say that the upcoming sequel, Path of Exile 2, has truly outdone itself with the intricate details and strategic depth it offers, especially when it comes to the lesser-known but oh-so-powerful mechanic called Rage.
In the course of battle, Path of Exile 2 offers numerous enhancements and temporary abilities that can be exploited. Given the vast creativity in designing your character class, understanding precisely what each benefit provides is crucial to ensure a harmonious fit within your character’s build.
In some characters, Rage proves to be a significantly potent advantage. Here’s a comprehensive guide on understanding Rage, its application, and the suitable weapons for each class.
How Does Rage Work In Path of Exile 2
Rage is a bonus that can be found on support gems or on gear. No matter how it is attached to your character, Rage will build up stacks every time you deal damage to an enemy with a melee hit. There are a few other options in how you build Rage, but it’s usually with melee attacks. Rage can get up to 30 stacks active at once, and each stack makes your character deal 1% more attack damage. You can check how many stacks of Rage you have by checking the icon that appears along the far left corner of your hot bar.
As you inflict damage on enemies, your Rage stacks accumulate. However, these stacks begin to diminish if you neither receive damage nor hit enemies with melee attacks for two consecutive seconds. After this two-second interval, each stack gradually disappears individually. The number of Rage stacks generated by a single melee attack is influenced by any active buffs on your character that amplify rage production, thus enabling you to accumulate multiple stacks with a single strike. Optimal weapons for a Rage-focused build are those that enhance this mechanic.

How To Maximize Rage In Path of Exile 2
There are multiple ways to upgrade your Rage:
- Support Gems.
- Gear bonuses on magical gear.
- Passive skill upgrades.
Rage generated from Support Gems will only apply to the skills you put the gem on.
By implementing these techniques, you can amplify the amount of Rage gained per strike, increase your total Rage capacity, and slow down the rate at which Rage is lost. Enhancing your maximum Rage will also escalate the overall damage bonus you receive when fully charging your Rage. Additionally, as you progress with later passive skills, you can secure a formidable advantage that grants Rage upon being attacked by an adversary, swiftly maximizing your Rage when confronting groups of enemies. Many of these benefits are situated deeper in the skill tree on the far left side, so consider resetting your skills if necessary to access them.
