As a seasoned comic book aficionado and video game critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Insomniac Games has truly outdone themselves with their Marvel’s Spider-Man series. The tragic tale of Harry Osborn is the heart and soul of this captivating narrative, much like how Norman Osborn’s decline mirrors the Green Goblin’s descent into madness.
Having spent countless hours poring over comic books as a youngster, I can attest to the fact that Harry Osborn has always been one of my favorite Spider-Man villains, and Insomniac did an exceptional job of breathing new life into this classic character. The developers skillfully weave in elements from the comics while crafting a unique storyline that keeps players hooked from start to finish.
What sets Harry Osborn apart is his tragic backstory, which mirrors many classic Spider-Man stories. His father’s obsession with finding a cure for his illness drives him to take drastic measures, leading to the outbreak of Devil’s Breath and the symbiote invasion in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, respectively.
I must admit, I chuckled when Norman Osborn tried to poke a quietely enraged Dr. Otto Octavius. The writers did an excellent job of capturing the tension between these two characters, adding a touch of humor to an otherwise intense narrative.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a video game that offers a gripping storyline, stunning graphics, and engaging gameplay, look no further than Marvel’s Spider-Man. The tragic tale of Harry Osborn is the heart and soul of this series, and his journey will leave you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
Oh, and one last thing – if Norman experiments on Harry with the G-SERUM in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, I hope they don’t make him too goofy with a glider, pumpkin bombs, and an armored suit. I can just imagine him riding around New York City on a broomstick – now that would be a sight to behold!
Right off the bat in Marvel’s Spider-Man, players are thrust into the thick of things with an assault on Fisk Tower. Despite being Spider-Man for eight years at this stage, Peter Parker maintains a remarkable humility during the opening scenes. The game truly shines when it delves into original storytelling, although it often draws heavily from comic book roots, such as Mr. Negative and Devil’s Breath. It isn’t until Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 that the character’s enigmatic true nature is fully unveiled. As players progress through Marvel’s Spider-Man, they discover that Harry Osborn is afflicted, and his father, Norman, is taking drastic measures to find a cure for him.
In simpler terms, Norman Osborn often behaves obnoxiously when interacting with others, particularly when he gets the chance to provoke a simmering Dr. Otto Octavius. Yet, it’s clear that his son’s condition and the loss of his wife have left him deeply troubled. In “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,” Harry is freed from his stasis chamber, leading to the emergence of an alien symbiote. This event is central to every major plot development in the “Marvel’s Spider-Man” series, and Norman’s desperate efforts to cure Harry may have contributed to the appearance of several main antagonists.
Harry Osborn is a Tragic Character at the Heart of Marvel’s Spider-Man
In much the same way as many traditional Spider-Man narratives, the Osborn family plays a significant role in the Marvel’s Spider-Man series. Insomniac skillfully crafts this narrative, where neither Harry nor Norman are inherently evil characters. Instead, Norman is portrayed as attempting to help Harry, while Harry seeks to make amends for the world in honor of his mother. However, it’s their actions that have led to disaster and conflict in two out of the three Marvel’s Spider-Man games so far.
- Norman was only developing Devil’s Breath (or GR-27) as a means to cure Harry in Marvel’s Spider-Man, though it is incomplete and Otto gets hold of it to wield it as a bioweapon.
- The symbiote bonding to Harry was a means to cure him or at least keep him in stasis while other solutions could be discovered, but its parasitic hive mind wreaks havoc in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 once Harry is released and the symbiote briefly latches onto Peter.
- Norman demanding the G-SERUM at the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is yet another attempt to cure Harry and will undoubtedly result in a Goblin adversary of some kind, whether that’s Norman, Harry, or someone else entirely.
As someone who has grown up watching Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, I have always admired his selfless nature and unwavering commitment to helping others. In Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, we see this clearly through his work at the research stations and the Emily-May Foundation (EMF). If Peter recovers in Spider-Man 3, it seems he has plans for a grassroots edition of the EMF right out of his garage.
However, as someone who has followed Peter’s story closely, I can’t help but feel a sense of concern for Harry. With how many times Norman Osborn has failed to save him, it appears as if Harry is doomed to a sad fate that his father’s only been able to delay for so long. It’s heartbreaking to see a character who is so full of potential be stuck in such a tragic situation. I can only hope that the writers find a way to give Harry a happier ending, or at least a more satisfying resolution to his story.
As a dedicated film enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at the pivotal role Harry’s affliction plays in the grand scheme of things. Without it, we wouldn’t have to worry about Devil’s Breath outbreaks or symbiote invasions. Interestingly enough, this very same ailment seems destined to spark the heart of Marvel’s Spider-Man 3’s narrative as well.
Norman Osborn’s Decline Precipitates a Green Goblin in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3
If Norman administers the G-SERUM to Harry, it’s quite possible that Harry might transform into a new antagonist in Marvel’s Spider-Man, this time equipped with a glider, pumpkin bombs, and an armored suit. However, overemphasizing Harry as a villain seems unusual and may potentially further exploit the character beyond its current limits.
Norman’s feelings are sincere, yet Harry seems to have transformed into a test subject rather than anything else currently. It’s difficult to comprehend why Norman would ingest the G-SERUM instead of him, but if he turns into the Green Goblin, there should be a convincing rationale behind it.
