Creating video games often requires a significant amount of time, with some titles undergoing extensive development. Hollow Knight: Silksong serves as an excellent example, as its creation was shrouded in myth and legend at times. However, after diligent work by Team Cherry, the game is now ready to enter the world.
At Gamescom 2025, I had the opportunity to try out Hollow Knight: Silksong. In just a 15-minute demo, my optimism soared that the upcoming sequel could truly meet the high expectations set by the intense anticipation. It’s hard to find an independent sequel with as much buzz and weight of expectation riding on it as this one.
The development journey of Hollow Knight: Silksong has encountered some unexpected turns along the way. To shed light on the matter, let’s take a trip down memory lane and clarify some details for you.
How Long Has Team Cherry Developed Hollow Knight: Silksong For?

Approximately seven years ago, in 2018, it is believed that Hollow Knight: Silksong started its development process. This indicates that the game has spent a considerable amount of time in production.
The official development of Silksong started a year after the release of Hollow Knight, and it was a full year before the wider audience got acquainted with Hollow Knight: Silksong as a whole.
An intriguing piece came out in August 2025 explaining the extended development time for Hollow Knight: Silksong. Essentially, Team Cherry found themselves immersed in the process of designing the game, exploring fresh concepts, and meticulously ensuring that Silksong lived up to being a sequel, rather than an expansion pack as initially planned.
When Was Hollow Knight: Silksong First Announced?
The enchanting game, Hollow Knight: Silksong, was initially unveiled to the public on February 14, 2019, with the release of its debut trailer.
You can watch the “Hollow Knight: Silksong Reveal Trailer” on Team Cherry’s YouTube channel. This two-minute clip gives a good glimpse of Silksong, and it looks like we won’t have to wait too long until the sequel is in our hands.
Surprisingly, what we didn’t anticipate was that it would be more than six years before the game would finally see its release (although it hasn’t officially been launched as of yet).
Take a look at the initial reveal trailer displayed below and tell me if there are any elements seen in the Silksong demo, or more recent videos and clips.
You don’t need to consider Silksong as a myth or legend – it’s a real upcoming game! Team Cherry’s hard work promises an exciting experience, and I can’t wait to explore Pharloom as soon as it releases. I’m genuinely thrilled about Silksong, and I encourage you to share your thoughts with me on the TopMob forum.
Why not hang around and check if Silksong will be available on the Nintendo Switch or possibly the next version – Switch 2? And just in case you haven’t played Hollow Knight yet before trying out Silksong.
