As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of hunting monsters under my belt, I can’t help but be thrilled about the dynamic weather system in Monster Hunter Wilds. Having witnessed countless storms and droughts in various games, I can attest that weather events not only enrich the immersive experience, but also introduce new layers of challenge.
The thrill of experiencing changing weather conditions in video games is undoubtedly exciting. Massive tempests, extensive droughts, and other drastic alterations in the climate can achieve far more than merely enhancing immersion; they can introduce novel obstacles to gameplay. Specifically, Monster Hunter Wilds aspires to incorporate a weather system that emphasizes strategic gameplay advantages and disadvantages, so players should be mindful of the creatures in the forthcoming Capcom release.
Game Rant recently had a chat with Capcom and Monster Hunter Rise director Yuya Tokuda regarding the impact of its weather conditions and their three phases: Fallow, Inclemency, and Plenty. Although there are other aspects that contribute to the overall setting, these three stages significantly influence the gameplay experience.
The Weather Forecast in Monster Hunter Wilds
In Monster Hunter Wilds, the climate typically falls into three main types: Fallow, Inclemency, and Plenty. These conditions somewhat mimic real-world weather patterns, where severe weather can revitalize a region after it has been depleted. Each of these phases also affects gameplay differently.
Tokuda elaborated on how unique weather conditions could present both opportunities and difficulties that other weather patterns might not offer.
During the Fallow period, food is scarce which makes monsters become more aggressive and they often travel together. In contrast, during the Inclemency, the most powerful monster emerges. Players have the option to venture out during Inclemency for a chance to hunt the Apex Monster, or lure other monsters towards it to cause more damage. Interestingly, during the Plenty, monsters tend to roam alone and there are numerous opportunities to restore health using local fauna and various growing plants.
Hunters can easily access and review the prevailing weather conditions and duration in the main menu. Additionally, the details section of each location provides this information. Moreover, the mini-map offers real-time weather updates as well. This feature allows hunters to plan their expeditions effectively; they can decide whether to instigate fights between monsters, use vegetation for extended adventures, or prepare for challenging encounters with Apex Monsters.
For a consistent hunting trip, consider venturing out during the abundant seasons. If you’re up for a more demanding adventure, try going out during the harsh weather conditions; it will surely give you a thrilling, high-risk, high-reward experience.
When Monster Hunter Wilds launches on February 28, 2025, players will experience the harshness of Inclement weather, revel in the benefits of Plenty, and persevere during the lean periods known as Fallow times.
