Fans of horror stories are frequently treated to numerous adaptations by Stephen King, as there’s always a new one in development. Those who think King’s tales translate well to television are eager for the upcoming prequel series, IT: Welcome to Derry. Naturally, curious viewers will be wondering just how involved the author is with the TV production, which centers around the famous terrifying clown, Pennywise.
As reported by Joblo, Andy Muschietti – who served as an executive producer on the IT films set in Derry and was involved in their production – discussed his conversations with Stephen King about a potential TV series during an interview on Radio TU.
Muschietti said:
In more casual terms: “When it comes to my projects, Steve King always has the final say. But this time, things felt less formal, which was cool. I’ve been pretty tight with Stephen King ever since we made the movies together. He shoots me an email now and then, and I do the same. It’s a privilege for me, and I consider him one of my pals.
Muschietti further explained that King had approved the initial script for the prequel. Moreover, he has a grasp of the overall plan for the series, which we hope will span across three seasons.
He said:
As our project advanced, I continually shared the script’s progress with him, and he appreciated the initial draft. We then unveiled our plans for where the series would head in future seasons. His faith in us stems from the success of the movies that resonated not only with him but with audiences as well.
It seems that Stephen King appears to be pleased with the strategy for the prequel series of IT: Welcome to Derry, as he has put his faith in the cast and crew. Fans are always interested in King’s opinions on pop culture, especially when it comes to horror movies or TV shows he enjoys watching. Similarly, we know that King is a fan of the 2019 remake of Pet Sematary, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. He even warned his followers that the movie was scary, judging from the trailer.
Bill Skarsgård returns as the chilling character, Pennywise the Dancing Clown, in the upcoming series “IT: Derry Welcome“. Skarsgård mentioned that this prequel series will deviate from the films and delve into Pennywise’s past. The cast includes talented actors such as Stephen Rider, James Remar, Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, and Chris Chalk. Stephen King’s book offers a captivating tale about childhood, friendship, family, courage, and overcoming fears. It promises an exciting exploration of Pennywise’s early years and the origins of his reign of terror.
Fans of the King series will have the chance to delve deep into the chilling atmosphere of Derry, Maine by streaming all nine episodes of IT: Welcome to Derry season 1, expected to be released in 2025.
