How My Reviews Will Change Going Forward

Hello! I’m going to rework the way reviews are published in Firaxis.

I’m changing how I do reviews because, while people seem to enjoy them, they take a really long time to create – usually one to two weeks, even when things go well. I often get caught up in editing, making sure the details are right, and rewriting parts as I come up with new ideas. This slows me down a lot, and since I do everything myself, I typically only manage to review one or two games a month.

I enjoy playing and reviewing games in detail, and I have thoughts on many of them. Right now, focusing solely on long-form game reviews isn’t practical because I create other content too. I’d also like to share my thoughts on older games, even though they aren’t currently popular. I believe there’s still value in reviewing these classics, as people often revisit them, and my opinions could be helpful.

I also realized many people visit Firaxis to find out about new games. This approach aims to give viewers what they want and establish Firaxis as the central hub for strategy game information, encouraging them to explore titles that catch their interest.

So after much consideration, I came to a good compromise that will work like this:

I’ll still write detailed reviews, but only for games I feel are truly deserving of the effort.

I’m really excited to start making videos where I’ll basically just talk about games I’ve been playing, giving my honest thoughts as I go – kind of like a freestyle commentary. I got a lot of great reactions when I was doing the Critical Moves Podcast, and I really enjoyed that interactive format, so I want to bring something similar to YouTube!

All future game reviews will be concise and to the point – essentially quick scorecards. They’ll be easy to read and give you a clear, immediate idea of whether a game is worth playing. I know most people just want to know the final verdict, so these reviews will deliver that without a lot of extra details. I’ll also be using this format to share my thoughts on older games I’ve played.

Here’s how this review will work: I’ll start with a brief but detailed look at the game itself – its genre, who made and published it, when it came out, how much it costs, and where to purchase it, along with its review score. After that, I’ll share my personal thoughts in three paragraphs. Finally, I’ll wrap things up with a clear recommendation – whether or not I think you should play it.

Detailed reviews won’t disappear, but I’m aiming to create something more accessible. My goal is to build a huge collection of strategy game reviews within a year, all easily searchable on a dedicated website with helpful filters. I hope you’ll support this vision!

I’ll be sharing more reviews shortly, and I’m starting with a classic: Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, one of the greatest real-time strategy games ever made.
