How Star Wars Outlaws Is a Full Circle Moment for Humberly Gonzlez

How Star Wars Outlaws Is a Full Circle Moment for Humberly Gonzlez

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for stories that resonate deeply, I can wholeheartedly say that Humberly González’ journey in the gaming industry is nothing short of inspiring. Her passion for video games, which dates back to her days as a theater student, has led her to some truly remarkable roles, like Calisto Chase Da Silva in Starlink: Battle for Atlas and now Kay Vess in Star Wars Outlaws.

The main character of the game Star Wars Outlaws, Kay Vess, is played by Humberly González, an accomplished Venezuelan actress who has previously worked on various Ubisoft-produced titles such as Far Cry 6, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Starlink: Battle for Atlas. Her role in Star Wars Outlaws not only marks a significant career achievement but also a poignant personal moment, given her extensive experience in both video games and film.

In a conversation with Game Rant, Humberly González discussed the comparison between “Star Wars Outlaws” and her past projects, sharing that playing Kay Vess and piloting the “Trailblazer” brought back memories of her initial video game character who was also space-faring. Furthermore, she shared that working in video games has been a long-held career aspiration for her.

Star Wars Outlaws Isn’t Humberly González’ First Time In Space

In his initial video game appearance, González portrayed Calisto Chase Da Silva within Ubisoft’s expansive action-adventure space title, “Starlink: Battle for Atlas”. Here, Calisto transitioned from a racer to a pilot, piloting a space-worthy hotrod. It’s common practice for studios to create props to help motion capture actors with their performances. For González’s performance in “Starlink: Battle for Atlas”, he was situated inside a wooden spaceship for the motion capture process.

I felt extremely proud since I had long aspired to work on video games, and that was my initial exposure to the field. In my first face-to-face audition, they constructed a wooden spaceship for me, as it turned out that my character was the fastest race car driver on Earth. However, she suffered an accident and could no longer race, but she was then enlisted for a space mission where she received bionic limbs, enabling her to now compete in races across space.

It was incredibly meaningful for me to reflect on my journey, from cradling my first baby to where I am now, directing Star Wars. And let me tell you, it’s amazing to be steering a larger spacecraft! Whenever I think about that initial character and the path I’ve taken since then, I can’t help but marvel at how much I’ve grown. It’s fascinating that as the motion capture artist, I even had the chance to pilot a wooden spaceship earlier in my career.

A few years have passed, and once more, González finds herself commanding a wooden spaceship, but not just any ordinary one. This time, it’s in a motion capture studio, working on something grander. The transition to piloting the Trailblazer was a significant milestone for González, reflecting both personal and professional advancement in her life.

Humberly González Has Always Had Her Sights On Acting In Games

Although many actors develop a passion for working in video games later on, González has always aspired to act in them, even during her student years. Despite not playing favorites, she finds joy in all aspects of her work across different mediums. González believes that motion capture in video games has contributed significantly to her growth as a screen actor, as it requires precise control and accurate reflection of every small body movement in the animation.

“From the get-go, my passion for video games and motion capture has always been a driving force for me, even surpassing my initial interest in film and TV. During my theater school training, I had the opportunity to encounter motion capture technology in Montreal. This experience allowed me to don the suits and participate in simulated scenarios.”

It came as a surprise to me that genuine actors are featured in video games; I assumed everything was computer-generated. Discovering this was truly enlightening, revealing an aspect of the gaming industry that I was completely unaware of.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my curiosity about where Actress González’s journey takes her next. Her exceptional portrayal of Lady Dimitrescu has undeniably opened doors, as evidenced by her recent role as Orin the Red in Baldur’s Gate 3. Could it be that her future roles will see her commanding an even more colossal wooden spaceship? Only time will tell!
