So far, it wasn’t unexpected when during Summer Game Fest 2024, the collaboration between Capcom and SNK was unveiled, hinting at the appearance of Mai Shiranui and Terry Bogard in a highly praised fighting game. However, it wasn’t until Gamescom Opening Night Live that fans caught a glimpse of how Terry Bogard might appear in Street Fighter 6. Judging from the previews of Terry Bogard in SF6 during the event, he seems to have retained his charming flair, as he appears very similar to his iterations in Fatal Fury – from his taunts to subtle body movements and overall style

Terry’s Character Design, Taunts, And Animations Make Him Feel Right At Home In Street Fighter

It’s not a new development for Capcom to lend characters to other franchises, but Terry’s introduction in Street Fighter 6 raised a few eyebrows. For starters, he’s the first character outside of the Capcom sphere to become playable in a mainline Street Fighter game, leading to concerns about whether the developers would nail his likeness. Injecting foreign talent into an established franchise can be tricky for even the most capable devs.

It appears that Terry’s agile movements in brief moments suggest that Street Fighter 6 has kept most of what defines his character. His move set is quite striking, as the contemporary style of a Street Fighter game has highlighted his abilities more effectively. Capcom aimed to update Terry’s iconic stance and Super Arts like Power Wave and Burn Knuckle without changing their classic look

Capcom’s Focus on Tradition with Terry Bogard Could Yield Dividends

In a quick demonstration of Street Fighter 6, the resemblance of Terry Bogard was praised for more than just his movement mechanics. His signature red cap and leather jacket from previous SNK versions are still present, and his confident fighting style, which has always been appealing to fans, is also intact. This combination of a stylish yet classy appearance and powerful fighting techniques is a big part of what made Terry a legend in the gaming world

In the world of Street Fighter, each installment boasts a distinct animation and artistic flair that sets it apart. It’s understandable then, that minor adjustments were made in an effort to perfect the gameplay. However, it appears that Terry’s movements in Street Fighter 6 closely resemble those from the Fatal Fury series, from basic punches to specific elements like taunts and victory poses. This similarity is particularly evident in the Fatal Fury titles, where Terry was a fan favorite due to his ease of use, thanks to a gentle learning curve. It seems this key aspect of Terry’s character has been preserved in Street Fighter 6, making him a solid mid-range choice. He excels at closing gaps swiftly and effectively using combos

To provide additional support for the promotion effort, “Street Fighter” recently unveiled Terry Bogard’s gameplay trailer on YouTube. This allows fans to become acquainted with his movements and peculiarities before the game is released. The resemblance to his days in “Fatal Fury” is striking, and given Terry, it seems likely that the style of Mai Shiranui will be similar when she debuts
