How To Active Frozen Trolls In God of War Ragnarok

As an old-school gamer who’s witnessed the rise and fall (and rise again) of countless gaming dynasties, I must say that God of War Ragnarok has truly outdone itself with these hidden boss battles. The Frozen Trolls and the Everlasting Dragon are not just challenging mini-bosses; they’re a testament to the game’s attention to detail and the sheer satisfaction of overcoming a tough adversary.

Instead of merely being a typical follow-up to the 2018 acclaimed game, God of War Ragnarok expands upon its predecessor with numerous enhancements. A frequent complaint about God of War (2018) was its absence of mini-boss battles, an issue that the sequel has made a concerted effort to address and overcome.

In God of War Ragnarok, there’s a multitude of mini-bosses, with so many that some have been intentionally tucked away from most gamers. To discover these elusive bosses, you’ll require a unique item: the Enchanted Artifact. The following guide provides all the essential details about the Enchanted Artifact, such as where to locate it, how to activate it, and what rewards it bestows.

Where Is Mystical Heirloom Located In God of War Ragnarok?

Once you’ve wrapped up the primary mission called “Forging Destiny”, you will be granted access to an innovative tool – the Draupnir Spear. In the game, this multi-functional weapon offers several benefits such as uncovering hidden passages.

Make your way back to Midgard, focusing on the Lake of Nine region. Navigate towards the southern part of Tyr’s Temple. Use the provided image for reference. At that location, you’ll notice a path obstructed by an icy wall with a visible weak spot colored yellow. The Draupnir Spear tutorial should have guided you on the necessary steps: hurl the spear at the vulnerable point and trigger it to blast through the ice.

Upon reaching the clear passageway, proceed within and cast your gaze to the left side. There, you’ll uncover a heart-wrenching sight – a fallen dwarf, a parchment, and an enigmatic artifact on the floor. Gather them. The object of interest is known as the Mystical Heirloom.

After acquiring the enigmatic Mystical Heirloom artifact, you may find yourself pondering about its true function. The game description states, “Revives something slumbering deep within the user” – a statement that leaves much to interpretation. Notably, the Mystical Heirloom has a 17-second cooldown period, doesn’t exhibit any obvious effects upon use, and unlike other relics, it cannot be enhanced or upgraded.

The information provided within the game could leave you puzzled: “It appears vital, yet it doesn’t seem useful during battles.

On my gaming adventure, I stumbled upon an intriguing artifact known as The Mystical Heirloom. This trinket holds a unique power – it can breathe life into the Frozen Trolls you may have come across during your journey, serving as optional bosses to conquer. Additionally, it has the ability to awaken one Frozen Dragon. In all, there are four Frozen Trolls and one Frozen Dragon that can be summoned by this artifact. Once you’ve activated these dormant beasts with the relic, feel free to stow it away, as its power is no longer needed for further use.

With the Mystical Artifact now in your possession and its role clarified, your upcoming mission involves finding the four Frozen Trolls and vanquishing them. Not only will you acquire extra treasures and a chance to boast, but these combats are exceptionally entertaining. Therefore, go ahead and track them down for the exhilaration of the fight itself.

Frozen Troll In Midgard (Blodugr Steinn)

As a gamer, I’d say: “Alright, folks! The first Frozen Troll is chilling in Midgard, so no need to dash around with fast travel. Instead, jump back on that sled of yours and steer towards the Derelict Outpost. It’s nestled right at the bottom-left corner of the Lake of Nine zone. If you get lost, just take a peek at the given image for guidance.

Upon your arrival, find the path leading upward to Sindri’s store. Proceed straight ahead until you come across a spacious clearing. In this open area, you will encounter the initial Frozen Troll. Make your way towards it and employ the Mystical Heirloom to revive it.

Troll named Blodugr Steinn, while not overly difficult due to its limited repertoire of moves, requires caution, especially when it comes to its pillar assaults. The Draupnir Spear proves quite useful in this battle, as it can disrupt the troll’s attacks and even momentarily stun it.

Frozen Troll In Alfheim (Bjarg Storm)

Following your victory over the initial Frozen Trolly, make your way to the Mystic Gateway closest to you and teleport to Alfheim. In the southwest corner of the Forgotten Sands area in Alfheim, you’ll find the next Frozen Troll. Consult the map for its precise location.

I’ll saunter up to ol’ Bjarg Storm, the troll, and give him another jab with my Mystical Heirloom, hoping it’d bring him back to life. Truth be told, he ain’t much of a tough cookie. With some grit and a bit of strategic whack, I reckon I can take him down in just a handful of tries.

Frozen Trolls In Vanaheim (Golrab Of The Ashes & Golrab Of Frost)

The final two Frozen Trolls are located in Vanaheim. Return to the nearest Mystic Gateway and fast travel to the realm of the Vanir. These trolls can be found in Noatun’s Garden, which is south of Freyr’s Camp. Hop on your boat and head to the location marked on the map.

In this area, you’ll come across two Trolls named Golrab, one of Ashes and one of Frost. By now, you should be familiar with the process – approach them carefully and employ the Mystical Artifact to revive them. This confrontation will prove to be the toughest yet. The trolls may team up against you, and their ability to hurl dirt can momentarily impair your vision. However, the main challenge comes from their resistance to elements, making it harder for you to deal damage effectively.

  • Golrab of the Ashes is immune to the Blades of Chaos.
  • Golrab of Frost is immune to the Leviathan Axe.

Avoid using elements that trolls are resistant to, because it will affect Kratos instead.

TIPS TO DEFEAT BOTH TROLLS:

  1. Focus on One Troll: Don’t split your attention. Concentrate on eliminating one troll first.
  2. Use Runic Attacks Early: The moment the trolls unfreeze, unleash both your Runic Attacks on one target to gain an early advantage.
  3. Switch Weapons Strategically: Alternate between the Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos, and Draupnir Spear as needed.
  4. Avoid Greed: Play cautiously and prioritize survival over aggression.

Even experienced players may need a few tries to conquer this fight. Patience is key.

Where Is The Frozen Dragon Located In God of War Ragnarok

Besides the Four Frozen Trolls, there’s another battle yet to be unleashed using the Mystical Heirloom – a secret clash with a dragon, which lies within the realm of the dwarves, known as Svartalfheim.

Swiftly journey to Svartalfheim and make your way towards the aptly named Dragon Beach. Deal with the common adversaries in the vicinity initially, then search for the frozen dragon resting atop a rock. Utilize the Mystical Heirloom to revive the Enduring Dragon, and brace yourself for a formidable confrontation.

In this battle scenario, you’ll face a formidable opponent – the toughest dragon among the frozen bosses. To level the playing field, seek out the large fire-emitting boulders that are scattered throughout the arena. Whenever an opportunity arises, hurl these boulders at the dragon to inflict heavy damage and create weaknesses. Maintain your mobility and make optimal use of ranged attacks.

Overcoming every frozen Troll grants you a Slumber Stone, an exclusive item used in creating the Steinbjorn Armor Set. This set is one of the top defensive armor options in the game, enabling Kratos to withstand substantial damage. To construct the entire set, you’ll require four Slumber Stones, and vanquishing all four trolls gives you precisely that.
