How to Adopt a Cat in Heartopia

Heartopia gradually introduces players to different hobbies as they play. It begins with easy activities like fishing and eventually offers more complex ones. A later hobby players can unlock is cat care, allowing them to adopt and nurture a feline companion.

Bringing a cat home should be a happy experience! This guide will walk you through the steps of caring for your new furry friend in Heartopia, ensuring they have everything they need to thrive.

How to Unlock the Cat Caring Hobby & Adopt a Cat in Heartopia

You can start taking care of cats once you reach level 12 in the game. Then, simply talk to Mrs. Joan, and she’ll introduce you to the Cat Caring hobby. You’ll need to use a Hobby Expansion Ticket to confirm you want to start it.

Once you’ve started the cat collecting hobby, you can get your first feline friend! The game lets you pick from several cats, and you can check out each one’s breed, gender, and personality before you decide.

All Cat Traits in Heartopia (& What They Do)

Cats in Heartopia have unique characteristics that influence how they act. Each cat can have up to two of these traits, so it’s helpful to know what they are before you bring a cat home. Here’s a breakdown of each trait and how it affects your cat’s behavior:

Cat Traits What They Mean
Clingy The cat follows you around.
Energetic The cat loves to play.
Chatterbox The cat meows a lot.
Quiet The cat doesn’t make much noise.
Naughty The cat likes to get into mischief.
Sociable The cat loves attention and wants to interact a lot.
Unsociable The cat prefers alone time.
Slow The cat gets hungry less quickly than other cats.
Sluggish The cat tends to be lazy.
Indifferent The cat doesn’t care much either way.
Sensitive The cat is picky about food.

The game doesn’t offer much explanation about what different cat traits do, so the following isn’t official information. It’s just what players have observed so far.

Before you can take your new cat home, you’ll need to pay 500 Gold for a quick check-up. After the exam, you can give your cat a name, bring it home, and start feeding it. Please keep in mind that once you adopt a cat, the adoption is final.

How to Increase Your Bond With a Cat in Heartopia

The most important part of daily cat care is making sure your cat is fed. A hungry cat won’t want to play or interact with you. You can get cat food from Mrs. Joan, and we’ve found that cats also enjoy being fed fish.

Beyond just feeding your cat, there are lots of fun ways to interact with them! You can pet them, play games, groom them when they need it, or even take them outdoors. These activities will strengthen your relationship, and you might be surprised to find your cat bringing you little presents sometimes! At first, petting is the only option, but as you continue to interact, you’ll unlock more things to do together.

The more you interact with your cat, the more it will develop and learn new poses. You can see all of these by opening the Pets tab on your smartwatch. This page gives you a complete overview of your cat, including how hungry and energetic it is, its personality traits, and how its mood has changed over time. You can also change your cat’s name here if you’d like.

Okay, so as I get better at taking care of cats in the game – basically, earning more proficiency – I unlock some really cool stuff! I’m talking new toys and decorations for my kitties, the chance to adopt even more cats (yes!), and eventually, even an automatic feeder so they’re always taken care of. It’s awesome!
