Okay, so in Starsand Island, there are so many cute pets you can get – everything from capybaras to foxes, plus tons of cats and dogs! But you can’t just instantly have them. You actually have to take care of them first – feed them, play with them – before they’ll become your official pet. It’s kinda like building a friendship before you can adopt them, which I think is a really cool touch!

All Adoptable Pets in Starsand Island
On Starsand Island, players can build friendships with 12 different animals. While most are cats and dogs, you’ll also find opportunities to befriend creatures like squirrels, capybaras, pandas, and a charming pink fox. Here’s a list of each animal’s name and species:

The game features two dogs both named Scrappy. You can find the black and white Scrappy wandering around town, and the brown and white Scrappy is available for adoption at the pet store.
Out of the twelve animals, only Booboo the panda isn’t available for adoption. She has unique interactions and will stay in her habitat even as you become closer to all the other animals.
How to Adopt Pets from the Pet Shop in Starsand Island
In Starsand Town, players can adopt up to two pets from the local shop, Woof and Wow Pets. You’ll find the shop on the north side of town, and it’s open daily from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm in the game.
Woof and Wow Pets currently has two adorable animals looking for homes: Scrappy the puppy and Nana the white kitten. To adopt either one, simply go to the counter and choose the “adopt” option. Each pet costs 7,500 coins, so be sure you have enough coins saved up first!
If you have enough money, you can adopt a pet by clicking the “Adopt” button under the pet’s description. The game will ask you to confirm, and then you’ll need to sign an adoption contract. Once that’s done, you can take your new pet home!
How to Adopt the Island’s Animals in Starsand Island
If you want to adopt one of the animals on Starsand Island, you’ll need to become friends with them first! You can do this by interacting with and feeding them every week. Once your friendship level reaches 3, you’ll be able to adopt that animal as a pet.
Once you meet their needs, pets adopted from the shop and any stray kittens you find will instantly become friends with you at level 3.
How to Befriend Booboo in Starsand Island
Making friends with Booboo on Starsand Island is unique. Unlike other animals, you can’t just pet and feed him to gain his affection. Instead, you need to find some fresh bamboo shoots and offer them to Booboo. He’ll be attracted to the smell and will ask you to feed him!
The first time you need to feed Booboo, you’ll need 15 fresh bamboo shoots. This increases to 25 shoots the second and third times, 30 the fourth time, and finally 35 the fifth time.
When players finish tasks for Booboo, they’ll receive a treasure chest with recipes inspired by bamboo.
Once you’ve finished all of Booboo’s requests, you’ll become best friends! However, you won’t be able to adopt Booboo. They’ll continue to live with Grumpy and Bao, but you can still pet and play with them.
How to Adopt the Stray Kitten in Starsand Island
Once you’ve started the ‘Light Up the Night!’ quest and spoken with Stella, you’ll need to visit Zephyria at the Exploration Club. She’ll give you a slingshot and show you how to open the gate to the Mystic Forest. Then, go back to your cabin and make a fishing rod. Finally, use the fishing rod to catch a fish in the river near your cabin.
Okay, so I just reeled in this fish, and it kicked off a cutscene! A little stray cat showed up, and the game wants me to give it the fish – which I did, naturally. Then Stella walked over and started chatting about the kitten. She asked if I wanted to adopt it, and I definitely said yes! Gotta collect ’em all, right?
Stella will give you instructions to make a Bamboo Cat Ear Pet Bed. Once you’ve crafted it, take it to Stella at her shop, Woof and Wow Pets. Chat with her while you’re still carrying the bed, and she’ll let you adopt the kitten named 404.
All Pets Preferred Foods in Starsand Island
On Starsand Island, all animals sort their food into four groups: favorite, like, dislike, and hate. Giving an animal its favorite food is the fastest way to build a strong relationship with it.

You can only feed your in-game pets three times a week, so make sure to give them foods they really love to help your relationship grow faster and avoid waiting until next week to level up.
You can often figure out what an animal likes to eat just by learning about it. Also, offering both plant-based and meat-based foods can help you discover its preferences.
How to Find Adoptable Animals on the Starsand Island Map
The simplest way to find animals is by checking for their icons on the map. However, in Starsand Town, buildings and people can sometimes hide these icons. To get around this, players can use the “Residents” button on the left side of the map to instantly see an animal’s location.
To find an animal, first go to the ‘Residents’ tab. Then, scroll all the way down the list of residents. Tap the animal you’re looking for, and a panel with its name and details will appear. Finally, tap the ‘track’ button at the bottom of the panel to mark its location on your map.
You can find animals on the map even before you encounter them in the game. This is a great way to learn where they usually live.
