Titled “Ender Magnolia: Flowering in the Fog“, the story unfolds decades following the occurrences depicted in “Ender Lilies: Twilight’s Demise“. As an Attuner, you traverse a barren world, battling creatures and colossal adversaries known as Homunculus. Yolvan, the Shadowy Pursuer, serves as the second boss encounter in the game, marking the first substantial test for players since he offers a meaningful challenge.
Given your current progress in the game, you’ll initially face restrictions on using Homunculi Abilities, making encounters like Yolvan, The Black-Winged Huntsman appear more challenging than they actually are within Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist. But fear not! As you familiarize yourself with his attack patterns, the fight becomes noticeably less demanding. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you conquer Yolvan effectively.
How to Find Yolvan, The Black-Winged Huntsman in Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist
In the lower part of the Old City within the game, you’ll meet Yolvan, the Dark-Feathered Pursuer. Converse with Gordon and accept the mission to locate the Winged Artificial Creature. Then proceed to the right, beyond the wooden bridge, to access the Old City – Lower Stratum region. The layout is simple, but you’ll encounter numerous adversaries along the way.
Ultimately, you’ll reach Clock Tower Plaza – Entrance Rest Area. Nola warns that the Winged Homunculus might be close by. To initiate the boss battle, make your way to the room on the side.
Rest at the Respite to heal up to full and refill your Health Wards.
How to Beat Yolvan, The Black-Winged Huntsman in Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist
In the current stage of play, Yolvan, also known as The Black-Winged Huntsman, is not an opponent to underestimate. Given his title, this formidable boss has the ability to soar through the arena, making it essential for you to primarily utilize your jump attacks to inflict damage on him.
In this phase, the boss has three main attacks:
- Bullet Combo: Yolvan fires three bullets toward the player. The attack has a very short range.
- Bullet Strafe: Yolvan flies from one side of the arena to the other while firing bullets below him.
- Single Shot: Yolvan fires a single-bullet shot that deals heavy damage to the player. The bullet also has a wider AOE than his other attacks.
As a fan, I find the initial skirmish quite accessible for many players, as it’s primarily about timing your jump attacks when Yolvan pauses after an assault. The Double-Jump and Dash abilities make dodging most of his attacks during this phase a breeze.
Use the Sanguinary Raven Artifact, boosting your aerial attack damage by 10% for smoother combat encounters.
If you succeed in draining the yellow energy bar beneath Yolvan’s health meter, he will fall to the ground. Use this moment to cause maximum damage as the boss may regenerate soon. Repeat this strategy when he recovers. Keep it up until he is defeated permanently.
How to Beat Caladrius in Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist
After depleting Yolvan’s health meter, he undergoes a transformation into Caladrius, marking the beginning of the second stage in our battle. In the event that Caladrius defeats you, the fight resets back to its initial phase.
In this phase, your boss is going to learn some fresh strategies. Fortunately, unlike Yolvan, Caladrius won’t shoot bullets at you during this stage. Here are the three attacks that Caladrius employs in this level instead:
1. The first one is a swift, spinning attack where it spins around rapidly, trying to catch you off guard.
2. The second attack involves Caladrius summoning energy orbs that it fires at you. You’ll need to dodge these carefully as they can deal some damage.
3. Lastly, Caladrius might perform a charge attack where it rushes straight towards you, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
- Slash: Caladrius slashes forward in a wide arc. It has a short range.
- Jump-Slam: Caladrius leaps into the air and slams downward, creating a small AoE shockwave.
- Fire Orb: Caladrius jumps away and fires three Fire Orb projectiles towards the player.
Initially, Caladrius might appear formidable due to his massive stature, but much like Yolvan, his attacks can be dodged if timed correctly. When you notice Caladrius preparing for the Slash attack by raising his arm, swiftly dodge through him and land a few blows from behind. Escape the Fire Orb attack with caution, as precise timing is crucial when pressing the Dash button the instant the Orb lands on you to evade damage.
At this point, Lito serves as your most valuable companion. It’s ideal to utilize her power whenever it’s not on cooldown to inflict heavy damage and momentarily disorient the boss. Once his power gauge runs out, he’ll be briefly stunned, providing you with an opportunity to dish out additional damage.
Where to Go After Beating Yolvan, The Black-Winged Huntsman
Following the boss’s defeat, Caladrius collapses to the ground, allowing for fine-tuning. A Memory sequence unfolds, and once it concludes, Yolvan will enlist in your army as your third Homunculi. He boasts three distinct Pressure-type abilities, which can be accessed using unique materials discovered during your global exploration.
Here’s a quick breakdown of his abilities in Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist.
- Barrage: Fires continuous projectiles when holding down the attack button. The attack damage is low, but it can quickly break stance.
- Lacerate: Hold down the attack button to fire spinning blades that cut through enemies. The blades can ricochet off terrain.
- Eviscerate: Hold down the attack button to create a spinning tornado in front that ignores enemy defenses and deals continuous break damage.
You can equip or change Homunculi from the Abilities menu when you’re at a Respite.
As a gamer, I’d tell you it’s time to revisit the Old City Market and have a chat with Gordon. He’s got the Key Item, Lower Stratum Key, which is crucial for moving forward in “Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist”. Plus, once that’s done, Fast Travel will be unlocked, making navigation a breeze!
