How To Beat Chatacabra In Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, as suggested by its title, you encounter a great number of monstrous creatures. From the least known small monsters to the legendary Elder Dragons, each player has their preferred monster across the series. To begin your hunt in Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll come face-to-face with Chatacabra.

The Chatacabra resembles a colossal, lethal frog. Its rough physique and crushing jaw are capable of pulverizing anything in its path. This uncomplicated yet intimidating monster offers a powerful starting point for the game and comes equipped with impressive-looking gear to enhance your gaming experience.

Chatacabra – Strengths And Weaknesses

As a gamer, I’d say Chatacabra is a formidable creature designed to familiarize me with the game’s diverse mechanics. Yet, they’re surprisingly lenient when it comes to the equipment I can wield against them, even if we cross paths elsewhere in the game world. Let’s dive into their stats for a moment.

  • Weak Point – Tongue
  • Elemental/Ailment Weaknesses – Lightning, Poison, Paralysis, Stun
  • Elemental/Ailment Strengths – Fire, Water, Dragon
  • Best Weapon Damage – All weapons deal same degree of damage.

In most cases, Chatacabra can be managed effectively regardless of your build, even during the initial stages. However, it’s crucial to remember that they sustain significantly more damage from the front. Therefore, maintaining an offensive stance and keeping yourself in front of them is key if you aim to wrap up the fight swiftly.

Whenever it is out, make sure to strike Chatacabra’s tongue, as this is their weakest point by far.

Best Equipment To Fight Chatacabra

Because Chatacabra is a creature encountered early in the game, standard armor sets like Hope, Leather, and Chainmail are all useful against it. It doesn’t possess any unique elements or ailments that can harm you, nor does it have special attacks. Consequently, a variety of items should prove effective, as long as they offer decent defense.

On the attacking side, almost every weapon inflicts the same amount of damage, and most of their bodily areas can be harmed quite readily. Be cautious not to use overly elementally-powered weapons, as Chatacabra doesn’t have any notable weaknesses in this area. Once more, regular weapons should prove effective here.

Chatacabra – Fight Breakdown And Moves

As a classic early game foe, Chupacabra boasts a somewhat constrained repertoire of attacks, yet it exhibits clear indications which can be quite formidable if not handled cautiously. Let’s delve into the details of each of its moves and learn the most effective strategies to dodge them.

Move Description Counter
Tongue Swipe Chatacabra whips out their tongue and strikes around themselves in an arc. Move away, or stay behind them.
Bite Chatacabra will open their mouth and do a quick bite in front of themselves. Move quickly to the side. The range is quite short on this attack
Fist Slam Chatacabra will raise a fist before slamming it down in front of themselves. This can be followed up by a slam with the opposing fist. Keep your distance as it is quite easy to get knocked away.
Double Fist Slam Chatacabra will jump into the air and land down a short distance away, fists first. Move away, or unleash a heavy attack while they’re in the air to instantly stun them.
Licking Charge Chatacabra will whip out their tongue and start charging forward, knocking you out of the way. Once again, move out of the way and follow after them.

You’ll notice they fight quite generously, and their moves are rather deliberate. This provides ample opportunity for you to maneuver, as their range is limited, making most attacks easy to dodge. However, be cautious about certain attacks, particularly the fist slams, as they possess a significant knockback force that can be challenging to endure without some enhancements.

In specific environments, Chatacabras have the ability to burrow their hands and cover them with tough substances. This doesn’t alter their attack styles, but it enhances their strength. To shatter this additional material, aim for their fists.

Chatacabra offers a limited selection of resources, and acquiring these materials is not overly challenging or complex. No special strategies are required for obtaining them. Here they are, arranged according to their drop rates:
