How to Beat Dumah in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is one of the most intriguing and engaging action-adventure games I’ve ever played. The boss fights are unique and challenging, but none more so than the final confrontation with Dumah.

In Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Raziel will engage in battles against numerous ex-comrades, culminating with Dumah. After casting Raziel into the Lake of the Dead, Dumah has significantly enhanced his powers, boasting that they are now comparable to those wielded even by his creator, Kain.

Similar to many boss encounters in this game, it’s less about battling an adversary and more about gathering intel on the fight to uncover their weaknesses and ultimately defeat them. Out of all the boss characters in the game, Zephon is the one that truly feels like a traditional boss battle.

How to Beat Dumah in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

As a gamer, I stumbled upon a chilling sight: a colossal figure, Dumah, seated on a throne with an array of wooden stakes impaling his body. The temptation to free him by yanking those stakes was strong, but I knew better than to act without knowing the battle strategy. After all, this wasn’t your typical boss fight – I wouldn’t be confined to a single arena to face Dumah.

As gamers progress through Dumah’s fortress, they’ll uncover paths that were initially inaccessible. One such area is a colossal furnace room. To trap Dumah, players must establish a path from this furnace room to his lair. Along the way, helpful visual guides of the necessary turns will be available, as well as a step-by-step guide:

  • Head east along the red carpet and out of Dumah’s room.
  • Go around the fallen obelisk to the hallway on the east side.
  • At the beam of sunlight, turn and head south.
  • Head up the ramp and turn to face west.
  • You will go over a bridge while heading west.
  • Head to the far west side of the next room and through the doorway.
  • Follow this winding corridor to the furnace room, making sure Dumah is following you.

If players distance themselves excessively from Dumah, he’ll retreat to his den. In such a case, players would need to repeat the entire process from the start. It’s best for players to avoid jumping and continue running towards the room instead, allowing Dumah time to catch up after being stunned by his stomp attack. Players can occasionally glance back to check if Dumah is keeping pace; if he lags too far behind, he might need more time to catch up.

Upon entering the furnace room, they’ll spot a wheel on the western side and a lever on the eastern side. To activate gas valves, gamers should initially move westward upon entry and rotate the wheel. Once they lure Dumah into the center of the room, they can proceed to pull the lever on the east side. This action will trigger an explosion, vanquishing Dumah. The ensuing spectral energy trail can be utilized for capturing foes or interfacing with specific objects.

In case Dumah ends up on the western platform, it’s crucial that players maintain an unobstructed route between the two locations. This way, once Dumah reaches Raziel, they can guide him back along the walkway.
