How to Beat Eddie Dombrowski in Silent Hill 2 Remake

As a gamer who’s had my share of encounters with various video game characters, I can confidently say that Eddie Dombrowski from the Silent Hill 2 Remake is one of the most emotionally gripping boss fights I’ve ever experienced. Coming from a background where I was bullied for being overweight, seeing Eddie’s plight in the game resonated deeply with me.

As a dedicated fan, I must say that the showdown with Eddie in the Silent Hill 2 Remake stands out among other boss battles for its poignant emotional impact. Eddie, who was tormented by childhood bullies due to his weight, carries deep psychological scars into adulthood. This is vividly portrayed when players first meet him in the Wood Side Apartments, where he’s seen vomiting in a toilet while insisting on his innocence. It’s hard not to empathize with this unfortunate soul, who appears trapped in a haunting nightmare.

As the game unfolds, Eddie’s behavior gradually transforms into rudeness towards James. By the climactic showdown with Eddie, his mental condition has deteriorated significantly, causing him to provoke James. This leads to a challenging boss battle that tests both mental fortitude and skill in gameplay.

How to Beat Eddie Dombrowski in Silent Hill 2 Remake?

Towards the final stages of the Desolate Labyrinth’s Region, in the Chilled Meat Storage, players will square off against Eddie Dombrowski. The altercation commences with James delivering a punch to Eddie after he brandishes his revolver. Subsequently, an enraged Eddie dashes into the meat locker, compelling players to pursue him to initiate this remade boss battle in Silent Hill 2.

Eddie’s boss fight is a three-phase battle in Silent Hill 2 Remake, so let’s break it down.

First Phase

  1. The boss fight takes place in a dark and dingy meat locker where Eddie will be sprinting throughout the fight. In the first phase, players must follow sound queues to predict Eddie’s movements to attack at the right moment.
  2. Simply wait for Eddie to come close to James to attack him up close. A simple dodge will do the trick, followed by blasting your shotgun at him.
  3. There are moments when Eddie will aim his revolver at James. The aiming animation is pretty apparent, so dodging right before he’s about to shoot is simple. But a slight hiccup in the dodge’s timing could inflict considerable damage on James.
  4. If Eddie is out of sight, or you don’t have enough time to dodge his weapon, try to take cover behind one of the hanging meats.
  5. After the first phase ends, Eddie will shoot the overhead gas pipes, making the meat locker foggy and reducing visibility.

Second Phase

  1. The second phase is a little tough as you’ll need to rely on sound queues more than ever to figure out where Eddie is. Try to focus on his voice, his footsteps, or the sound of chains moving in the distance to predict Eddie’s movements.
  2. In this phase, Eddie would mostly try to pistol-whip James. There’s a short version of the Iconic Silent Hill siren that players use right before he approaches James, which is a good indication to dodge.
  3. After dodging Eddie’s pistol-whips, try to land a good amount of shots on him before he escapes into the foggy meat locker.

Third Phase

  1. Doing enough damage will transition the fight into its third and final phase. The visibility will become better as fog subsides, but the meats will start moving, stripping James of his cover.
  2. Eddie will rely on his revolver mostly in this phase, so players will have to switch positions constantly to avoid getting hit. Now you can see Eddie when he takes the shot, try to dodge at the right moment, and hit Eddie with your Hunting Rifle.
  3. Rinse and repeat this process as Eddie will go down sooner in this phase.

After my Health Points (HP) deplete to nothing in Silent Hill 2 Remake, I find myself crashing down to the ground. Neither my character nor I can revel in victory during this battle, but rather we’re struck by an overpowering wave of sorrow and remorse. It’s one of the captivating ways this game manipulates a player’s emotions – instead of instilling a sense of accomplishment after conquering a tough fight, it leaves us with a lingering sense of guilt.

Following the defeat of Eddie, players can proceed toward the conclusion of the game, where they’ll ultimately get to see the dramatic finale of their extended journey across the town.
