How to Beat Guangzhi in Black Myth: Wukong

As a seasoned martial artist with a penchant for ancient Chinese mythology, I must say that the battle against Guangzhi in Black Myth: Wukong has been one of my most exhilarating encounters yet! This Wolf Guai, wielding his fiery staff, is no pushover, but with the right strategy and a dash of agility, he can be defeated.

In the game titled “Black Myth: Wukong“, you’ll often come across formidable enemies to battle, with Yaoguai Chiefs and Yaoguai Kings comprising a significant portion of these bosses. One of the initial Yaoguai Chiefs you can take on is Guangzhi, a Wolf Guai armed with a flaming staff. With swift attack sequences and dashing strikes, Guangzhi amplifies his powerful attacks by setting things ablaze. To minimize damage, it’s crucial to stay agile and, if required, execute consecutive rolls to put out the flames.

In the game Black Myth: Wukong, defeating Guangzhi isn’t strictly necessary, but it’s highly advisable to do so promptly since doing so grants you the first transformation spell. This feature lets your character assume the form of certain defeated enemies, utilizing their attacks which can significantly boost your damage and shield your health meter from direct harm. When transformed, you have a separate health bar; once this is depleted, you’ll be forced to revert back to your original form.

How to Beat Guangzhi

In a fight with Guangzhi, he typically starts with a pair of spinning slashes, followed by a sweeping attack. You can evade these by sidestepping or backing off, but perfectly dodging the final swing creates an opportunity for a retaliatory strike. Immediately following the dodge, casting ‘Immobilize’ could increase the damage you inflict, particularly if you’ve upgraded to enhance damage against enemies caught in mid-attack. However, take note that all of Guangzhi’s attacks ignite, causing continuous damage over time. This burn effect can be eliminated by performing consecutive rolls.

Guangzhi can also perform a triple-slam attack by pole-vaulting with his weapon. Dodge to either side as he comes down from the leap to dodge this attack and be ready to counterattack after his third landing (Be careful, as his health dwindles he will start adding a fourth jump to this attack to trick you, so wait for the fourth jump when he is at half health or less). Another melee attack he can use begins with him whirling his staff behind him, before sweeping it in front of him twice. Dodge through both sweeps and you’ll have a chance to hit him after the second swing. Guangzhi can disengage by performing a spinning dodge away from the Destined One. After doing this, he will usually throw his weapon, which spins for a moment at the end of its trajectory before returning to him. You should dodge to the side as he throws it to avoid this, and make sure you aren’t in the way when it returns, or it will hit you on the way back.

At times, instead of discarding his weapon upon disengaging, Guangzhi might evade to one side and execute a spinning move that propels him back towards you. Try to dodge through it or to the side, then retaliate after his final strike. He may also leap into the air before executing another spinning attack, which should be dodged and countered similarly. Avoid casting the immobilize spell on him while he’s airborne, as you won’t be able to reach him for a subsequent attack afterwards.

When Guangzhi stands beyond attack range, he occasionally spins his staff and holds it behind him temporarily. Get ready to dodge, as he’ll follow up with a swift slashing charge after holding the staff for a moment. He may repeat this second slash quickly, so stay alert and ensure you dodge the second dash before retaliating. If you’re quite adept at timing, you could attempt to freeze him during his dash start and then launch a combo on him to disrupt it. However, the window for success is minute and off-timing may lead to getting hit instead.

Red Tides and the Bell

Following your victory over Guangzhi, there are three benefits you’ll acquire, but one will prove more beneficial in the near future. You’ll get an entry about him in your Journal, offering insights into his past, and permission to ring the bell he was safeguarding. However, the immediate advantage is the acquisition of his weapon, “Red Tides.” By wielding this weapon, the Chosen One can assume Guangzhi’s form and employ some of the moves he utilized during the battle.

In this battle, Guangzhi employs a three-hit combo called “Moon Dance” repeatedly during the fight against the boss. On the other hand, his heavy attack, named “Moon Chase,” is a dash move that can be linked together. When Guangzhi’s focus bar becomes full, you can follow a dodge with a heavy attack to execute one of his more potent attacks such as the overhead smash or spinning charge. The direction in which you dodge determines the type of attack used, mirroring how he dodges before launching these moves. Furthermore, every attack Guangzhi unleashes leaves enemies burning, inflicting ongoing damage. If you’re finding it hard to defeat the Wandering Wight, another boss nearby, the Red Tides could provide the boost you need.
