One of the most enjoyable aspects of *Borderlands 4* is collecting powerful weapons by defeating bosses, and you can begin this process surprisingly early with the boss Horace. You’ll meet Horace fairly soon into the main story, and he offers a great chance to find legendary items despite being a relatively easy opponent.
You’ll encounter Horace while completing the Fadefields questline with the Outbounders in *Borderlands 4*, before exploring other areas of Kairos. Reaching him can be difficult, but once you’re in the arena, a teleportation rift lets you restart the fight as many times as you like. Here’s a breakdown of all the loot you can get by repeatedly fighting Horace in *Borderlands 4*.
How to Beat Horace in Borderlands 4
You can find Horace at Horace’s Oversight, a base for the Order, located in the middle of the Fadefields within the Hungering Plain. He’s first introduced during the main story quest “Down and Outbound,” but you can revisit Horace’s Oversight and play the Moxxi’s Big Encore machine to fight him again if you have enough money.
The battle with Horace starts with him hovering in the air, attacking with ranged projectiles and calling in extra enemies to create a challenge. He’s especially vulnerable to shock damage, so using an elemental weapon that deals shock is a good strategy.

When Horace’s shield breaks, he’ll be knocked down and stunned briefly, letting you attack him for free. After he recovers, he’ll relentlessly chase you using close-range attacks. Keep moving and use your speed to stay away from him. Finish him off with a fire-based weapon and then collect your rewards.
You’ll find a red chest in the next room, easily accessible while heading towards the teleportation rift. This chest reappears each time you finish the fight with Horace.
All Horace Legendary Drops

Horace has three dedicated legendary drops in his loot pool.
Legendary | Description |
---|---|
Aegon’s Dream Assault Rifle | Prophetic: Fires both Fire and Cryo rounds. |
Pacemaker Repkit | Pulsometer: Passively regenerates Health over time, increasing in Rate when your health is low. |
Lucky Clover Pistol | Kismet: On Reload, fires 2 Homing Rockets. |
The Lucky Clover is the hardest pistol to find in the game. It’s also incredibly powerful, meaning you’ll likely be farming Horace repeatedly if you want to add it to your Borderlands 4 character build. Its special explosive rockets and description – “Such devastation… This was my intention” – are a nod to Final Fantasy 14, referencing a line from one of that game’s villains.

Aegon’s Dream is a powerful Vladof-made weapon that shoots both fire and ice bullets, inspired by the show *Game of Thrones*. It can be customized with various attachments and special bonuses.
The Pacemaker Repkit is a unique and somewhat controversial legendary item. While it can provide a small amount of immediate healing, its main benefit is constant, passive health regeneration. This makes it ideal for certain Borderlands 4 shotgun builds that focus on close-range combat with bosses.
