Okay, so Jakotsu-Baba is the first real yokai boss fight in Nioh 3, and let me tell you, she can be a serious challenge if you’re just starting out. Her attacks aren’t super fast, but they hurt – like, really hurt. Plus, she likes to switch up her combos, so you’ll probably get hit by something you weren’t expecting. It’s definitely a fight where you need to stay on your toes!
Jakotsu-Baba might look scary, but she’s actually not that hard to defeat if you know what to do. This guide will give you some fast tips for beating her in Nioh 3.
Nioh 3 Jakotsu-Baba Boss Tips
We highly recommend fighting Jakotsu-Baba using Ninja Style. It makes your Ninjutsu easier to use, helps you control your Ki, and allows you to learn the boss’s attacks more quickly thanks to its low Ki usage and quick dodging.
The best way to defeat Jakotsu-Baba is to deplete her Ki by using attacks that strongly target her Ki. A great technique is the Kickslash combo with the Ninja Sword, which you perform by following a Light Attack with a Heavy Attack. Focus on hitting Jakotsu-Baba once with a Light Attack, then using Kickslash one or two times, and immediately dodging away to avoid her attacks.
To make this strategy effective, you need to play boldly and proactively. While a special weapon isn’t required, consistently getting behind Jakotsu-Baba is crucial for activating your Backstab ability. Don’t hesitate to change your character’s build if it’s not performing well – Nioh 3 allows for free respecs.
Pay attention to the glowing patches left behind by the boss – they’re from the Yokai Realm. You can purify them using Ki Pulse, or simply draw the boss away from them. If you deplete her Ki, she’ll become vulnerable to staggers from all your attacks.
Here are some other tools that will help you out a lot during this boss fight:
- Hit Jakotsu-Baba with Shurikens to keep her Ki from regenerating
- If you have an elemental weapon, use a matching Uncanny Ninjutsu to quickly build up elemental status effects
- Cicada Shell will let you dodge attacks even if you’re out of Ki.
- Use Nekomata as your Guardian Spirit. He’ll let you use the Thunderclaw Kick skill, which deals good damage while letting you disengage from your target.
Keep close behind her and attack two or three times, then move out of the way. Only step away when she creates protective patches on the ground, and do so only to recharge your energy. Staying right next to Jakotsu-Baba prevents her from using her long-range attacks, and if she tries, she’ll likely miss completely.
Dark Realm Phase
When the boss enters her dark realm, your top priority should be breaking her horn. This will inflict a large amount of Ki damage and might even end the dark phase immediately. You can break the horn by using a ranged weapon, repeatedly throwing Shurikens at her face, or landing jump attacks on it.
If you’re struggling with the boss, try gaining more Amrita by defeating the Ippon Dataras near the Statues in the Crucible. We managed to beat the boss at level 18, so being at least that level should help. If you’re still having trouble, consider playing with a friend in co-op.
