As a seasoned gamer with countless hours under my belt, I can confidently say that Black Myth: Wukong has quickly become one of my favorite challenges. The boss fight against Lingxuzi, especially, has left me scratching my head more than once!
Your first genuine challenge in Black Myth: Wukong, at least one you must defeat to progress the story, is Lingxuzi. He’s the first Yaoguai King boss fight in Chapter 1, at the end of Forest of Wolves. Trust me when I say it’s a challenging but manageable fight once you learn his moveset. Here’s how to beat Lingxuzi in Black Myth: Wukong!
Finding Lingxuzi
In the dense Forest of Wolves, I stumbled upon an intriguing character – the Wandering Wight. This miniature, unsettling creature is anything but harmless; it lumbers about, causing tremors that shake the ground beneath my feet. Engaging in a fight with him now would be nothing short of suicide, so for now, I decide to steer clear and circle around him, keeping an eye out for a chance to move forward. The entrance to the next part of the story lies hidden in a dimly-lit cave, illuminated by a single torch, suggesting it’s a path meant just for me. I know I’ll have to face that menacing Wight again someday when I’ve grown stronger, but for now, I must press on and unravel the mysteries ahead.
Circumvent the cave and follow the pathway along the cliff’s edge, and soon you’ll come across a group of adversaries to battle. One is positioned atop the hill, shooting flaming arrows, so keep an eye on his accuracy and distance. However, these foes are mere obstacles compared to Lingxuzi, who lies in wait for you in the temple situated not far from the hilltop.
Before you fight him, however, there’s a Shrine at the entrance and a handful of harvestable resources in the immediate area, along with a chest in the far right corner of the courtyard.
How to Beat Lingxuzi
Before setting foot in the arena, always remember to take an Evil Resistance Potion first. This potion temporarily increases your Damage Absorption, especially useful during boss battles. It might not hold up for the entire fight, but you’ll likely have a chance to use another one mid-battle.
In the arena, Lingxuzi dashes about with speed, much like the Leonine Misbegotten from Elden Ring, and when he goes into a frenzy, he charges at you to inflict severe damage. His attacks are swift and he rarely strikes only once; instead, he often follows up with additional hits. Therefore, it’s crucial to be aware of a subsequent attack. To avoid him, try dodging beneath him or moving around the back but more towards his rear than directly to either side. Also, note that Black Myth: Wukong has significantly fewer invincibility frames compared to other Soulslike games.
To conquer Lingxuzi effectively, it’s crucial to maintain an aggressive approach. You see, he’s quick on his feet, jumping across the arena towards the rooftops, and using his enormous claws as weapons. Interestingly, Lingxuzi occasionally pauses at the edge of the arena to clean his paw. This pause provides you with a chance to advance swiftly and deliver a few precise strikes.
If Lingxuzi freezes and begins to advance towards you, step back quickly. He’s gearing up for a powerful roar attack that could cause significant harm if you’re nearby.
1. In the end, Lingxuzi will soar up and swoop towards you with a biting attack. Make sure to evade his teeth first, as he might grab you if you don’t; this could result in significant harm. However, if you manage to roll under him or to the side during evasion, you’ll have an opportunity to deliver some blows before he recovers from landing.
Above all, avoid being overly ambitious. This is more of a test of endurance, given that Lingxuzi is larger and stronger than you. When he prepares to swipe with his claw, be ready to evade. After his attack connects, seize the opportunity to counterattack with one or two blows. Repeat this strategy consistently until you manage to weaken him significantly.
Moreover, feel free to employ the spell “Immobilize” for a moment’s respite. It won’t keep him immobile indefinitely, but the duration is sufficient for you to recover or administer another potion that boosts your Defense Reduction.
