As someone who has spent countless hours in the enchanting world of Dota 2, I must say that the Spoon Man encounter is one of those challenges that can either leave you feeling triumphant or utterly defeated. With its unique blend of strategy and reflexes, it’s a mini-game that truly tests your mettle as a player.
The much-anticipated Crownfall tournament in the game Dota 2 has been a thrilling experience for fans of this renowned Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) title. During this event, players were not only introduced to two fresh characters, but they also had the opportunity to engage in an assortment of mini-games as they progressed through the storyline, unraveling the tales of Dragonus, Shen, and Queen Imperia.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to tackle Spoon Man, an important challenge found in Act 4 of Crownfall. Completing this fight will help you advance across the game’s world. Here, we’ll provide you with all the essential information required to conquer this encounter swiftly and reap the rewards it offers.
How to Play Spoon Man in Dota 2
Spoon Man is an encounter that you’ll have to complete to get into Queen Imperia’s Royal Palace in Cronwfall Act 4. You’ll have to take the left path and play all the way to the top to unlock this encounter.
In this occasion, you’ll find yourself in a scenario reminiscent of “Bomberman,” where your objective is to eliminate enemies using your explosive device (the Bomb). Each stage presents a certain number of foes you must vanquish. Upon eradicating all enemies, focus on destroying the luminescent stone tiles to uncover a Portal, which will transport you to the next level.
Killing each enemy in the Spoon Man rewards you with 100 points.
As you progress through each stage, the opponents become increasingly challenging. For the initial two phases, they’ll follow a set path. But as time goes on, you’ll face foes that won’t just move in one direction – they’ll chase after you at high speeds too. Some stages will even introduce flying enemies that drop explosive bombs, which can potentially kill you or eliminate other ground-based adversaries simultaneously.
In certain stages, you’ll need to open multiple doors to get to the Portal, which can be done using keys of different colors that you’ll find by breaking specific stone tiles. To open the Portal, make sure to use the keys in the right sequence. For these levels, there are no enemies to defeat. But if you do manage to eliminate all the enemies, the tiles containing the keys and power-ups will start glowing, making them easier to locate.
The scoring system uses both the time it takes to clear the Stage and the number of enemies killed into account. So, while killing enemies is always fun, it’s best to try and beat the level quickly to get the highest score.
In this game mode, you’re given three opportunities or chances to keep playing. If an adversary or bomb strikes you, you’ll forfeit one of these chances. The power-ups you’ve gathered thus far will scatter throughout the stage, requiring you to collect each one separately.
When you die, there’s a brief period during which neither opponents nor explosives can harm you. Plus, your walking speed increases for a boost.
All Enemy Types in Spoon Man Dota 2
As I journey through the varied stages of Spoon Man, I’ll face four distinct types of adversaries. Each one behaves uniquely, demanding a tailored strategy to take them down effectively.
Enemy Type | How They Work |
---|---|
Normal Guards | The Normal Guards don’t pose much of a challenge in this game mode. They move slowly in a single direction. You can trap them in a corner with a bomb to take them out easily. On later levels, they will drop a bomb occasionally, which you’ll have to avoid. |
Black Guards | The next enemy type you’ll encounter will be the Black Guards with two red horns on their helmet. They also have a slow movement speed. However, if you get into their line of sight, they will dash toward you. If you move out of the way, they will keep dashing until they hit a wall and get stunned for a short duration. You can drop a bomb and they will get stunned after dashing into it. |
Yellow Guards | Yellow Guards are similar to Black Guards in how they chase you. They will also get stunned if you drop a bomb. However, they will also push the bomb forward a tile. Yellow Guards have a higher movement speed compared to the Black Guards. |
Flying Guards | These enemies fly throughout the maze, dropping bombs at random locations. The bombs from the Flying Guards can take out the other enemies for you. You can’t kill Flying Guards. |
Dota 2 Spoon Man Power Ups
In each stage of the mini-game known as “The Spoon Man,” players can find several helpful items called Power-Ups. Here are the key ones:
- +Bomb: Gives you an extra Bomb
- Tile: Increases your Bomb’s Reach.
- Boots: Increases your walking speed
In the Dota 2 mini-game, you’ll find that you can gather several power boosts. The total number of power boosts you’ve accumulated will be displayed in the top-left corner of your screen as you play.
Other than these power-ups, there are also three bomb types that you can use in this mini-game.
- Basic Bombs (Black): They are the ones that you start with. These Bombs don’t do anything special, but you can use the Special Power-Up Activation button (Alt by default) to stop a bomb.
- Sticky Bombs (Red): These bombs explode through breakable blocks and have a bigger range than basic bombs. They can break multiple Stone Blocks at the same time.
- Remote Bombs (Green): These bombs can be activated remotely by using the Special Power-Up Activation Button.
If you’re not cautious, there’s a chance you might be affected by your own explosives, resulting in the loss of all your power-boosts and one life.
Tips to Beat Spoon Man in Dota 2
While the premise of Spoon Man encounter is simple enough to understand, beating it requires careful timing and strategy. Since you can get hit by your own Bombs, you need to be extra careful when you’re using them. Here are a few tips to help you beat this encounter easily in Dota 2:
- Learn the enemy movement patterns. Some enemies only move at a straight path while others chase you down aggressively. Use this knowledge to your advantage to set a trap for the enemies.
- Pick up as many Power-Ups as possible. Since the Power-Ups don’t go away forever, make sure you collect them all if you get hit.
- Movement speed is your best friend in this game mode. Each Stage will have at least one movement speed boost that you can pick up. So make sure you look for it actively.
- Be extra careful in stages with the flying enemies. The bombs they drop can also kill other enemies. So, if you manage to stay alive, you can let your enemies take care of each other.
- In stages with colored Kyes
- Clear the Stage as fast as possible to rack up the best score. After defeating the enemies, plan your route so that you can collect all Power-Ups and get to the Portal without moving unnecessarily.
