As a seasoned survivor of the zombie apocalypse, I can confidently say that Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster has taken my gaming experience to a whole new level. The Supermarket Manager boss fight against Steven Chapman was an unforgettable encounter that left me shaking in my boots (and controller).
In the opening stages of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, you’ll find yourself at Seon’s Food & Stuff located in the North Plaza. This area is partially constructed and teeming with zombies. Your mission involves finding medicine for Brad, but a hindrance blocks your progress – enter Steven Chapman, the Supermarket Manager of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, who harbors an intense dislike for shoplifting. Here’s a strategy to take down this rotund boss!
How to Defeat Steven Chapman, the Supermarket Manager, in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster
During your gameplay of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, you’ll encounter numerous psychopaths. However, one that stands out is Steven Chapman, the supermarket manager. He has a strong dislike for thieves and falsely accuses you of trying to steal supplies from his store. To advance and complete Medicine Run, you’ll need to defeat him first, which will then allow you access to the pharmacy located at the back.
Initially, you might feel uncertain about how to defeat Steven and which strategies to employ. If you have a handgun, it can be beneficial for landing precise headshots to gradually deplete his health. Body shots may not inflict much damage and should ideally be avoided due to the waste of ammunition. Maintaining a distance from him could result in him charging towards you with the Weapon Cart, causing significant damage, or pulling out a shotgun and shooting you, causing damage and staggering you. Therefore, I suggest utilizing the refrigerator units at the back of the store as cover, as depicted in the screenshot above. When he draws his shotgun, try to dodge at the right moment and move either side to avoid his attack. After dodging, he’ll likely miss his shot, leaving him vulnerable for a counterattack from you.
Steven is vulnerable to close-combat attacks. It’s wise to maintain a distance initially, especially during the early stages of the fight, as you observe his attack patterns and movements. However, as you get accustomed to his behavior, try to approach from the side and strike at the supermarket manager. If he rushes towards you, swiftly dodge to either side and capitalize on the opportunity by landing a few hits while he recovers. An alternate strategy is to hide behind an aisle or near one of the refrigerated sections in the store’s back area. When he charges at you, misses, and exposes himself, you can launch a melee attack.
Beware, as Steven might swiftly steer the cart into an arc if you get too near. This could cause him to bump the weapon against your side with great impact, sending you tumbling away and inflicting substantial harm!
Should you find yourself low on ammunition and wishing to maintain a safe distance from Steven’s shopping cart, the final aisle in the shop offers numerous canned goods that can be used as projectiles. You may casually pick up one can at a time, aim, and hurl it towards Steven’s head. It won’t cause significant harm, but it should be enough to end the altercation or provide you with some extra space!
As a gamer, I may come across an opponent who seems to have homemade flamethrowers on his cart, but during the boss fight, he never uses that firepower against me. Instead, he charges at me with what looks like a battery-powered ram vehicle, slashing and hacking relentlessly with a pitchfork attachment up front – that’s how I take down Frank.
Keep whittling away at the supermarket manager, and you’ll end the fight in no time flat!

Rewards for Beating the Supermarket Manager
To conquer the supermarket manager, you’ll get the Pharmacy Key that opens the back room where you can gather medical supplies for Brad. Additionally, you’ll receive 30,000 PP and the Weapon Cart, but remember, you can’t take it with you into the back room. If you want to use the Weapon Cart, you’ll need to go back to Seon’s Food & Stuff, which will soon be infested with zombies. You can then fend off these zombies using a homemade battering ram!
