Typhon is the last boss you’ll face in Hades 2, and he’s a very challenging opponent. The fight has four stages, each with powerful attacks that can quickly defeat you if you’re not prepared. While certain boons and character builds can be helpful, the most effective strategy is to use the weapons and abilities you’ve already found success with. This guide will break down each of Typhon’s phases and how to get ready to win in Hades 2.
How to Beat Typhon in Hades 2
Before starting, I strongly suggest maximizing your ability to survive damage. You can do this by fully upgrading the Eternity arcana card, equipping the Luckier Tooth Keepsake, and utilizing Toula’s passive ability. These steps will significantly increase your health, which is crucial since Typhon deals a lot of damage. If you prioritize defense and boost your survivability this way, the Typhon boss fight will become much more manageable.
Phase 1
Okay, so the first phase of the Typhon fight is all about learning a few key attacks. The worst one, honestly, is his head slam. He does it whenever I get too close, and it’s a pain to dodge! When he starts roaring and you see his horns and chin glowing red, immediately back up. If you hesitate, you’ll get hit and it really hurts.
Typhon occasionally creates small tornadoes as part of his attacks. The easiest way to avoid them is to run and dodge. While their initial movement seems random, they’ll eventually start following you, though slowly. The best strategy is to wait for them to dissipate before resuming your attack.
Typhon attacks by swinging his head from side to side and firing a laser from his tongue. The laser sweeps across the arena floor, so you’ll need to dodge at the right moment to avoid getting hit. Mistime your dodge, and you’ll take damage.
Okay, so Typhon has this attack where he shoots a huge eyeball, and it splits into three smaller ones that also explode. When you see that big eye on his forehead light up, get ready! Dodge to the side as soon as it fires. But here’s the tricky part: if he starts shaking his head and you see those circular shadows on the ground, that means a bunch of eyeballs are about to rain down from above. The best thing to do then is to run towards Typhon and keep dodging – that should help you avoid most of the damage. It took me a few tries to get the timing down, but that’s how I finally beat him!
As phase 1 ends, Typhon will move to the back and lay eggs in the arena. Destroy these eggs quickly! If you let them hatch, tough enemies will appear, and they’ll cause trouble when Typhon comes back to fight.
Phase 2
As phase 2 starts, Zeus will strike Typhon, causing significant damage and briefly stunning him for 3 to 5 seconds. Use this opportunity to inflict as much damage as possible while he’s vulnerable.
If you stun Typhon and deal enough damage while his tongue is extended, you can skip directly to the third phase and deal with the eggs. Otherwise, you’ll have to repeat the first phase’s attacks, but this time with the eggs also being thrown at you.
Okay, so when Typhon starts spitting out those eggs again, my top priority is blasting them down ASAP! And this time, it’s not just the eggs – he’s also sending out these shockwaves with his tail and hands, so I really need to focus on dodging those as they come at me. It’s gonna be hectic, but I’ve got this!
Phase 3
During the final stage of the battle, Typhon will reuse many of his previous attacks, but they’ll be stronger and more powerful. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect from each one:
- Typhon’s tongue laser will now swing across the arena twice, rather than once. The easy way to avoid this is to just dodge through the laser on each swing.
- His ground pound move with his head is more powerful and a lot faster, making it more difficult to dodge.
- His eye attack will explode into three smaller eyeballs, which themselves explode into three smaller exploding eyeballs. This can cover a huge amount of the arena. When you see his eye glow, dash to the bottom of the arena, and then dodge back up towards Typhon. This causes the explosives to land towards the bottom of the arena and gives you a small area at the top to stay out of harm’s way.
- When Typhon rains down small eyeballs from above, sprint down to the bottom of the arena, as they’ll typically land towards the top.
In addition to his other attacks, Typhon now summons three swinging tentacles that sweep upwards across the arena. When you first see them appear at the bottom, quickly move down to avoid them. Then, when a second set spawns in the middle, dodge through the gap and immediately return to attacking Typhon.
