How to Become King or Queen in The Sims 4

The Sims 4’s Royalty and Legacy pack focuses on creating powerful families and noble Sims. Some Sims are born into these high-society circles, while others must work their way into the royal court.

Becoming a noble in The Sims 4 isn’t easy – it demands a lot of participation in the game world. But if you’re up for the challenge, it’s incredibly fulfilling and unlocks special abilities. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about playing a noble, from starting out to reaching the top and becoming the ultimate ruler.

How to Become a Noble in The Sims 4

Players can earn noble titles by pursuing the Noble career, which involves fulfilling certain duties. If a player desires a title simply for power and doesn’t want the responsibilities that come with it, they’ll need to find an alternative path to nobility.

How to Get a Noble Title Without Joining a Career

You can earn a noble title without becoming a full-time noble official. This lets you enjoy some of the benefits of nobility – like special conversations and the ability to claim royal ancestry – without the responsibilities or regular income that come with a noble career. You won’t be able to fully participate in governing the kingdom, though.

A Sim can gain nobility in two ways without pursuing the nobility career path: either their parent must first become a noble, earning them a lesser title, or they can marry a Sim who already holds a noble title, which gives them the same rank.

If a Sim receives a noble title from another Sim, their rank will match the giver’s, but it’s not permanent. For instance, marrying a Duchess will make a Sim a Duke. However, if the Duchess loses her status or income, the Sim’s title will be affected – it could be lowered or removed entirely. Getting divorced will also cause the title to disappear.

If a Sim promised someone else they’d pass on their title, it won’t vanish completely. Otherwise, they have 24 in-game hours to get it back after losing their career rank. To reclaim a lost Noble title, a spouse or child of the former noble living in the kingdom needs to join the Noble Career, choose a throne, and then select the option to claim the lost rank.

How to Join the Noble Career in The Sims 4

The Noble Career was introduced in The Sims 4: Royalty and Legacy expansion pack. It allows Sims to earn a noble title and complete related tasks for a salary.

Sims can become Nobles in a few ways: by using a throne to ask for knighthood, or by researching noble history through the book ‘The Duchess Diaries’ and choosing to study a noble legacy.

Noble Career Path Walkthrough

In The Sims 4, the Noble Career is a regular, full-time job where players advance by completing daily tasks and promotion goals. Progress requires building skills considered important for nobles, like Charisma.

The Noble Career offers a variety of tasks that change daily. Here are a few examples of what players can expect as they progress:

  • Practice the Waltz
  • Use “Noble Introduction” to meet a new Sim
  • Reply to noble mail
  • Pratice Swordsmanship with Practice Dummy
  • Partake in a Swordsmanship duel
  • Go on a Noble Venture
  • Discuss noble life
  • Attend a Grand Ball
  • Donate to kingdom funds
  • Ask noble advisor for advice
  • Purchase something over 600 Simoleons
  • Practice speech on a mirror
  • Adjust tax level of kingdom
  • Promise noble title inheritance to family member

Nobles have many different responsibilities that change daily. Players will often send their Sims on Noble Ventures – tasks that send them across the kingdom to improve their relationships with both commoners and royalty.

In the game, players often send their Sims on quests as part of the Noble Career. These quests take place throughout the kingdom and help Sims build favor with either the common people or the royal court. Increasing favor unlocks special interactions, depending on whether it’s with the Commoners or Royalty. Here’s a breakdown of the different favor levels within the Noble Career.

Commoner Favor Alignment Royalty Favor Alignment
Friend of the Commoners Unlocked interactions:

  • Enthuse about Commoner benefits
  • Criticize Royal decisions
  • Mock favor alignment
  • Respect support for Commoners

Players can improve and get promoted by completing their assigned tasks, no matter what their moral standing is.

Okay, so once my Sims are doing amazing at their Noble career – you know, when it says ‘Excellent’ and has that little checkmark – they can actually move up! All I have to do is have them click on one of the thrones, go to the ‘Noble Promotion’ section, and then just pick any of the options there. It’s pretty cool because you can actually see all the steps to climbing the Noble Career ladder!

Sims can earn noble titles – like Lord, Lady, or Prince – through their parents’ careers. If a parent reaches the highest noble rank, the Sim will be known as Prince, Princess, or Princem. Sims who marry nobles will share the same title as their spouse. Players also have the option to customize these titles and create their own unique names for them.
