How to Catch Groudon in The Indigo Disk DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

As a seasoned Pokemon trainer with countless hours spent exploring various regions and catching legendary beasts, I can’t contain my excitement about getting my hands on Groudon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The Indigo Disk DLC has brought a new level of adventure to the game, and I’m eagerly following each step to add this powerful Ground-type legend to my collection.

Groudon is most famous for being one of the two boxart monsters for the third generation of Pokemon games, Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire, for the Game Boy Advance. And now, with the additional Legendary Pokemon to catch in The Indigo Disk DLC for Scarlet and Violet, you can catch Groudon in the Paldea region. Here’s how to encounter the powerful Ground-type beast.

In the versions Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, there’s just one method to catch Groudon: buy The Indigo Disk DLC and finish the main story. Once accomplished, a man in black named Snacksworth will show up at Blueberry Academy’s entrance. He hands out Legendary Pokemon Treats randomly when you complete BBQs (Blueberry Quests). However, specific Pokemon can only be acquired by participating in Group BBQs, requiring an online connection and teaming up with a friend.

As a dedicated fan of the Pokemon series, I’d be thrilled to share some exciting news! In the newest installments, Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, the way you obtain the legendary Pokemon Groudon varies based on your game version.

Groudon Location in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Where’s Groudon at?

You can check out the screenshots below for a straightforward route to Groudon; otherwise, you can follow the steps below as well:

  1. To start, fly to Alfornada and walk west of the Pokemon Center to reach the entrance of Alfornada Caverns –this is where Groudon resides.
  2. Follow the path into the cave; once you see the first trainer, walk to the right until you’re almost to the edge of the cliff and use your Koraidon/Miraidon mount to fly over to the cliff at the opposite end, to the east.
  3. Once you have made it over, walk to the southeast corner of the rocky terrain, where Groudon is standing menacingly.
  4. Press the A button, and the battle will begin.
  5. Of course, just deal enough damage and try to inflict a status effect like Paralyze or Sleep to have a better chance at catching Groudon. You can always use a Master Ball if you get tired of chucking Ultra/Dusk Balls.

As a gamer, if I accidentally defeat Groudon instead of capturing him during my adventure, no worries! I can simply restart my game from the last save point and encounter him once again in the same location. Just remember to be cautious with Water, Grass, and Ice-type attacks, as they might accidentally knock him out. However, it’s important to know that Groudon is a Shiny-locked legendary, meaning I can’t catch his shiny variant even if I manage to defeat him multiple times.

Groudon’s Moves

When you capture Groudon, the Earth-type Pokemon, it will be at level 70. Here are the moves it will already know:

The target faints instantly if this attack hits.

When I use this move on my Pokémon’s opponent, it puts their Pokémon to sleep for the next two turns in a row. Simultaneously, it completely refills my Pokémon’s Health Points (HP) and removes any existing status conditions.
