As a seasoned aviator with countless hours spent navigating the skies in various simulators, I must say that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has been quite the rollercoaster ride. The initial takeoff was rocky, but thankfully the developers have worked tirelessly to smooth out the bumps and get us back on course. Now, with a clear runway ahead, it’s time to soar once more!
2024’s Microsoft Flight Simulator experienced a bumpy takeoff initially, but luckily, the early server troubles have been ironed out. Additionally, the game has received its initial updates, addressing some technical hiccups. If you found the launch day a bit turbulent, now might be an ideal moment to soar skyward once more.
In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, you have the flexibility to adjust numerous settings for varying levels of realism. For instance, it can simulate the weather and time of day, which significantly impacts your flight paths and visibility. You can modify these settings while piloting an aircraft in Free Flight mode, a feature that lets you choose any aircraft and any location worldwide. Whether you’d like to explore Manhattan at night or fly over the Great Pyramids amidst a snowstorm, it’s all possible! This tutorial will show you how to adjust weather/time before and during flights in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
How to Change Weather & Time of Day
Click the “Free Flight” button, and you’ll be navigated to a globe representing Earth. Here, you can pick an aircraft and design your flight path. Located at the upper right corner of the screen are the “Flight Conditions” settings. Beneath this area is a clock. When the word “Live” appears on the clock, it means the simulation will mirror real-time gameplay. You can toggle this setting off by clicking on it.
To explore more options for your flight, click on the flight settings. On an Xbox, you’ll need to press ‘Y’ to access this panel. Here, you can modify the weather and time. The ‘Live’ setting maintains the current real-world weather and time for the regions you fly over. Adjusting the time with Live settings can revert the weather back up to 24 hours. The ‘Preset’ option offers predefined weather patterns that you can select, while ‘Custom’ allows you to finely tune the weather and time details, even applying specific weather conditions to certain altitudes, air pressure, humidity, lightning, snow depth, and precipitation.
How to Change Weather/Time Mid-Flight
You can even change these settings while flying. On PC, take your mouse cursor to the top of the screen and click on the small cloud icon. On XBOX you must press RB + L3 to activate cursor mode. Once you’ve clicked on the weather icon, you can change the weather and time as you please. Keep in mind that the simulation may get slow and hitch as it loads in the weather/time changes in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
