In Starsand Island, you’ll quickly find yourself needing to clean your animals regularly to keep them happy and productive. It’s not immediately obvious how to do this when you start, so your animals might be marked as “Messy,” which makes it harder to improve their happiness.

This guide will quickly show you how to clean animals and craft a brush in Starsand Island.

How to Clean Animals in Starsand Island

To clean animals in Starsand Island, you have to:

  1. Buy the “Brush” blueprint for 150 Gold at Green Pasture Ranch
  2. Craft a brush
  3. Equip the brush and approach an animal that needs cleaning
  4. Press the required button to clean the animal (left mouse button on PC)

Cleaning an animal instantly makes it happier, and happier animals produce better resources. To consistently get high-quality materials, make sure you regularly clean and feed your animals.

Okay, so I’ve figured out you can only clean animals if they’re actually dirty! You can tell which ones need a scrub either by checking their stats, or if you see a little brush icon pop up over their head – that’s my cue to get the cleaning tools out!

Starsand Island Brush Recipe

Here’s what you need to craft a Brush in Starsand Island:

  • 2 Softwood
  • 2 Wool

You can get Softwood by cutting down young trees, such as Weeping Figs, or by buying it at Zerine’s General Store using Gold. Wool comes from raising and feeding Rabbits in a Rabbit Hutch. If you choose to buy Softwood, you’ll find Zerine’s General Store on the southwestern side of town in Starsand Island, right over the bridge from where you begin the game.

Okay, so when I’m ready to craft a Brush, I just go to any Worktable. The cool thing is, I don’t even need to have the stuff on me! Starsand Island is smart – it pulls materials from both my backpack and my Storage Boxes when I’m in the crafting menu, which is super handy.
