How to Clear Purple Goo Sludge in Pokemon Legends Z-A

A key part of Pokémon Legends: Z-A involves exploring, but you’ll often run into things blocking your way, such as piles of purple sludge. These gooey obstacles prevent you from reaching certain areas of the city, but thankfully, there’s a simple solution to clear them in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Usually, you’d remove obstacles like these by teaching a Pokémon a special Technical Machine, or TM. But that doesn’t work on the purple sludge piles in *Pokémon Legends: Z-A*. You’ll still need certain Pokémon to clear them, but they don’t need to know any special moves. Here’s how to get rid of the purple goo.

How to Clear Sludge in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

In *Pokemon Legends: Z-A*, you can easily get rid of those purple sludge piles by using any Water-type attack. It will wash the goo away and let you continue your adventure.

If you started with Totodile, you’re good to go! But if you picked Tepig or Chikorita, you’ll need to find a Water-type Pokemon in one of the Wild Zones around Lumiose City. Luckily, they’re pretty common! You can find Magikarp, Binacle, and Staryu in Wild Zone 2.

While Water-type moves are the main way to deal with the sludge in *Pokemon Legends: Z-A*, some Psychic-type attacks can also clear it. However, not all Psychic moves work – for example, Confusion clears purple sludge, but Psybeam doesn’t. Because only a few Psychic-type moves are effective, Water-type attacks are generally more dependable, though Psychic attacks can be useful in certain situations.

Cleaning up the purple sludge scattered around Lumiose City gives your Pokémon a little experience, so it’s worth doing even if you’re not headed that way. You’ll encounter plenty of it while completing side quests in *Pokémon Legends: Z-A*, and you’ll discover other ways to use your Pokémon’s moves beyond just battling.
