Crimson Desert features 6 Shield Challenges, each hidden in a different location – we’ve detailed them all below. To start a Shield Challenge, you’ll first need to locate the Sealed Abyss Artifacts, which are also listed below.
The challenges with the Sealed Abyss Artifacts can be tough, so we’ve added some helpful tips to make sure you can easily complete all Shield Challenges in Crimson Desert. Check out the rewards listed below!
You can finish all of these Challenges using Kliff, so you don’t need to bother with Damiane or Oongka.
How to Get & Complete Shield of Unchanging Will 1 in Crimson Desert
- How to Get: Found in a Sealed Abyss Artifact, which is located south of the “D” in “Hernand”, just north of the Stables in Hernand Town.
- Challenge: Defeat 3 enemies with a shield.
- Reward: x1 Abyss Artifact
To beat enemies using a shield, you have to deliver the final blow with the shield itself. You can do this with the Shield Bash attack, which is unlocked in the blue skill tree and activated by pressing L1 and R2. First, hold L1 to guard, then press R2 to bash with your shield.
You don’t need to fight three enemies back-to-back, which is good news! However, dealing with shields can be slow since they don’t take much damage. A better strategy is to go to Hernand and practice on the weaker enemies there. Use your sword for most of the damage, and then finish them off with a Shield Bash.
The Health Detection Device can also show you how vulnerable enemies are, and you can find a helpful guide on how to use it here.
How to Get & Complete Shield of Unchanging Will 2 in Crimson Desert
- How to Get: Found in a Sealed Abyss Artifact, which is located in the far south region of Hernand, south of the Scholastone Institute in Kharonso’s north area.
- Challenge: Block 10 arrows with a shield.
- Reward: x1 Abyss Artifact, x1 Faded Abyss Artifact
It’s simple to block up to ten arrows using your shield – just hold down the L1/LB button to raise it and let the arrows bounce off. You can easily practice this in Hernand, where you’ll often encounter Bleed Bandits who use archers.
It’s best to avoid the Crimson Desert and Demeniss areas, as enemies there often have guns. Hernand and Pailune are much safer for this challenge. Just keep your guard up and block 10 arrows – you don’t have to do it all at once!
How to Get & Complete Shield of Unchanging Will 3 in Crimson Desert
- How to Get: Found in a Sealed Abyss Artifact, which is located southeast of the Sanctum of Benediction, between the “E” and “R” in “Hernand”.
- Challenge: Hit 3 enemies at once with a shield.
- Reward: x1 Abyss Artifact
Here’s another situation where Shield Bash (L1+R2) is really useful. It actually covers a surprisingly large area! To complete this challenge, just find a group of enemies, get them close together, and then use Shield Bash.
Okay, so with the Shield Bash, I need to hit at least three enemies in one go, or I have to try again. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to get enemies clumped together, especially when I’m running around the sanctums in Hernand. It’s not usually a problem!
How to Get & Complete Shield of Unchanging Will 4 in Crimson Desert
- How to Get: Found in a Sealed Abyss Artifact, which is located east of Embernest Beacon in Rocca’s Hill, which is east of the “D” in “Hernand” across the river.
- Challenge: Defeat 5 enemies with a shield without taking damage.
- Reward: x1 Abyss Artifact, x1 Faded Abyss Artifact
As we discussed earlier, the Health Detection Device is a great help for this challenge, as it lets you see how much health your enemies have left. To defeat them, use your main weapon to lower their health – in Hernand, usually just one or two hits with a powerful sword will do the trick.
After reducing an enemy’s health, defeat them with a Shield Bash, and repeat this process five times without taking any damage. The best way to do this is to lure enemies away from the group one by one, and then attack when it’s safe.
How to Get & Complete Shield of Unchanging Will 5 in Crimson Desert
- How to Get: Found in a Sealed Abyss Artifact, which is located south of the “D” in “Demeniss”, in Furlington Farm, just north of the Mysterious Zone on the road.
- Challenge: Flip 5 enemies with a shield.
- Reward: x1 Abyss Artifact, x1 Fortitude I
This challenge is simple with smaller shields, such as the basic Grey Wold Wooden Shield. First, make sure your Keen Sense skill isn’t at level 3. At that level, it unlocks Shield Parry, preventing you from performing a Shield Flip and effectively stopping your progress. If you already have Keen Sense at level 3, you can either attempt this challenge on Damiane or use a Faded Abyss Artifact to reset your skills.
To perform the Shield Flip, get right up next to an enemy. As they’re about to attack, quickly use Shield Bash (press L1 and R2 at the same time). If you time it right, you’ll flip them over instead of just hitting them. Do this five times in total to earn your reward.
How to Get & Complete Shield of Unchanging Will 6 in Crimson Desert
- How to Get: Found in a Sealed Abyss Artifact, which is located in the Argent Peaks, north by the bridge covering the river between the “E” and “R” of Hernand.
- Challenge: Land 10 hits on enemies within 1 minute with the shield using Charge.
- Reward: x1 Abyss Artifact
Once you reach Armored Combat Level 3, you’ll learn the Charge ability. Charge lets you break through enemy defenses with your shield. To perform it, hold the guard button (L1/LB) and quickly press the X/A button twice. For best results with this move, try to gather a large group of enemies first.
This challenge requires you to defeat 10 different enemies, not fight the same 10 enemies repeatedly. We suggest heading to Demeniss, as it’s typically full of large groups of creatures. If Demeniss isn’t working, try a sanctum – they consistently have more than 10 enemies ready for a fight.
