After finishing a tier in Megabonk, players can replay it and choose challenges to see how well they do. A particularly engaging challenge in Forest Tier 1 is the AFK Gaming Challenge, where players are tasked with surviving to the last wave of enemies without moving or jumping.
What truly makes Megabonk‘s AFK Gaming Challenge so tough isn’t just staying visible to enemies, but also the inability to move and collect essential items. Players can’t reach XP shards, chests, potions, or shrines, making it very difficult to improve their character. Still, over time, they can gather some XP and gain levels, and with smart upgrade choices, completing the challenge is possible.
Best Builds For the AFK Gaming Challenge in Megabonk
Because players are unable to move during the AFK Gaming Challenge, they’ll soon be swarmed by enemies approaching from all sides. Also, they won’t earn much XP, as they can’t move to collect the shards, meaning they’ll likely be limited to their initial weapon for a while.
Because of all this, players need to think about how strong a character is and what weapon they start with when making their choice. Megachad and Athena are clearly the strongest choices in the AFK Gaming Challenge. They both begin with very helpful weapons, and their special, character-specific blessings-called RNG Blessings in Megabonk-are a big advantage.
Megachad/Aura – AFK Gaming Challenge Strategy

Megachad starts with Aura as his main weapon. This creates a shield around him that hurts any enemy who gets too close. This ability is really helpful at the beginning of the game, when you face weaker opponents. And if that wasn’t enough, he can also flex on enemies, preventing them from attacking and temporarily freezing them in place.
When players first collect XP shards, it’s best not to immediately invest in the Aura. Instead, they should first get a different weapon to increase their damage against incoming enemies, or the Attraction Tome which allows them to collect XP shards that land further from Megachad.
I’ve found that you don’t really need a ton of different weapons in this game. Instead, it’s way better to focus on upgrading the ones you *do* have, especially when the tougher enemies start showing up. The Knockback Tome is a lifesaver, and anything that can really push enemies back into Megachad’s Aura is super important. I also really like the Tornado as a secondary weapon because it’s great for knocking enemies back. Plus, as you upgrade it, it gets bigger, shoots out more projectiles, and does way more damage and knockback – it’s awesome!
Athena/Aegis – AFK Gaming Challenge Strategy

The Aegis, which is Athena’s standard weapon, is a bit more challenging to use because enemies need to be very close to her for it to be effective. But, this closeness actually helps you level up faster, as enemies will die near enough for Athena to collect the experience points they leave behind.
This doesn’t have to be done specifically with Athena, even though she’s the default character. However, she’s ideal for this because her random Blessing gives her Thorns every time she levels up, and also increases her damage output the lower her health gets. This makes surviving the early game easier, even if she takes a lot of damage from monsters.
The Cooldown Tome and Knockback Tome work well with the Aegis. They help push enemies away, giving the Aegis user time to recharge her shield-like weapon.

Tips & Tricks to Complete the AFK Gaming Challenge in Megabonk
The characters, weapons, and tomes we discussed can help players get to the final swarm more easily, but there’s more to consider. There are also other helpful tips and tricks that will definitely aid players in surviving the 10-minute challenge. Learn more about survival strategies.
Become Familiar With the Level

In Forest, players first encounter a small, slowly advancing group of enemies – the types of enemies will vary. Next, they’ll battle a mini-boss, then a larger swarm. After that, enemies begin to arrive at a steady pace. Finally, another swarm appears, culminating in a second mini-boss fight.
Players need to understand when each attack will happen to avoid being caught off guard. They should equip weapons powerful enough to defeat a boss without getting killed, but also capable of handling multiple monsters simultaneously to prevent being overrun. Here’s the precise timing of each attack within the Forest map: Understanding these timings is crucial for success.
- 7:00 – First mini-boss
- 6:00 – First swarm
- 3:00 – Second swarm
- 2:00 – Second mini-boss
- 0:00 – Final swarm
As I’ve been playing, I’ve noticed the monster waves are really varied, and honestly, some are *way* tougher than others. It all depends on who shows up first. Like, dealing with skeletons, goblins, bees, and slimes is pretty manageable – I can take them out quickly. But when I get hit with runners and those explosive monsters, things get seriously intense! It makes a huge difference in how hard the challenge is.
Okay, so the bosses are gonna be tough! You’ll have to fight both the Stone Golem and Chunkham the Terrible, but which one shows up first is totally random. The Stone Golem is a pain because he summons these sharp rocks from the ground – they’ll send you flying, seriously! And Chunkham? He throws this big ball of mud that really slows you down, making it hard to dodge. It’s a tricky fight, for sure! You can find more tips and strategies online if you’re stuck.
Purchase the Toggler

After players buy 40 unlocks in Megabonk, the Toggler becomes available in the Shop. It costs 50 Silver and can be really useful for players aiming to get particular items during a run. The Toggler lets players go to the Unlocks screen and turn off any weapons, tomes, and items they’ve already purchased.
This allows players to turn off weapons and tomes they don’t need while AFK Gaming. Finding items will be rare, but even if players do get some, they’ll likely want to disable anything that isn’t useful. Essentially, this gives them more control over what they collect while playing passively.

Players may have opportunities to find and open chests. When this happens, it’s very important to disable as many unnecessary items as possible. This will improve their chances of getting a helpful item and could be key to completing the run. Two items, in particular, are especially impactful for the AFK Gaming Challenge in Megabonk:
- Campfire – Standing heals the player
- Idle juice – The longer the player stands still, the more damage they will deal (up to +100 percent damage)
Get Banish, Skip, and Refresh Charges

Because the Toggler can’t completely turn off all weapons, books, and items, players should also focus on improving their uses of Banish, Skip, and Refresh. This allows them to refresh unwanted upgrade options until they find something better, remove truly useless ones with Banish, or simply skip past them. It’s a good way to manage choices and get the best upgrades.
For instance, the Agility Tome is useless during this run because players need to stay stationary, so it’s best to banish it. This also applies to any other items players find or buy – if they’re fortunate enough to reach a Moai Shrine or a chest – that won’t offer any benefits.
