How To Complete The As Good As Gold Quest in Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon

In the game The Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon, the As Good As Gold quest involves a traditional journey where you’ll interact with various Non-Player Characters (NPCs) as you endeavor to mend Elain’s valuable necklace. Although this mission is generally straightforward, it includes a challenging part where you must locate a goldsmith without any guidance from quest markers.

Rather than aimlessly wandering through the village talking to everyone, we’ll guide you straight to the goldsmith you’re looking for. This detour will pay off, giving you some valuable XP and opening up an exclusive accessory store in the process.

How To Begin The As Good As Gold Quest

To embark on this journey, make your way first to the village located near the Horns of the South. You can find it quickly with the fast travel point called “The Village”. Upon arrival, enter the local tavern and search for Elaine. She is easily identified by her all-black attire and solitary seating.

Note that in order to receive the As Good As Gold quest from her, you must have previously met her. This is because she won’t offer you the quest until after you have completed The Last Voyage Quest.

How To Find Osbryht The Blacksmith

Speak with Elaine, as she requests your assistance in fixing her broken necklace. Agree, then make your way towards the fortress where you’ll find Osbryht, the blacksmith. To reach him, take the steps on the left upon entering the fortress. Once there, he’ll inform you that he can’t repair it, but suggests seeking help in the village instead. You’ll be rewarded with 50 XP and receive her necklace. Now, let’s return to the village. This time, we’ll navigate towards the residential area.

How To Find The Goldsmith

Starting from The Village’s quick-travel point, head towards the hill, then turn right at the junction, and proceed up the stairs. Your destination is Ellis, who can often be seen moving around in the main area. Engage with him in conversation and choose these specific dialogue options…

  • “Tell me about yourself”
  • “What were you doing before you joined the other refugees?”
  • “Sure.”
  • “I might have a job for you. Do you think you could repair this?”

Ellis is going to fix your necklace for free right now. Once it’s fixed, you’ll receive it along with 50 additional XP points. After getting the repaired necklace from Ellis, take it back to Elaine and return her jewelry. In appreciation, she will reward you with 100 gold, 50 XP, and a Letter from Lady Elaine. Next up, Ellis has asked you to deliver this letter to Fearghas.

How To Unlock Ellis’s Accessory Shop

In the north-most part of the fort, you’ll find Fearghas. Speak with him and pick the dialogue option that has Lady Elaine encouraging you to take Ellis, the blacksmith, as an apprentice. He’ll happily oblige. Return to Ellis and share the good tidings. His face will light up, but more importantly, he’ll decide to open a small shop selling accessories. Now you can talk to him and browse through some attractive knick-knacks. You’ll earn 150 XP for successfully completing this quest.

The Adventurer’s Essential, priced at 2000 gold, might seem a bit pricey, but it significantly boosts your carrying capacity, a feature that can be truly invaluable.
