How to start the Beyond the Walls quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Your first goal is to head north of Hanazono Castle, located in the Yamashiro area. I’ve highlighted it on the screenshot below so you know where to go.
When you reach the location, you’ll discover a fallen soldier wearing clothes inspired by the Attack on Titan series, and a letter nearby. Reading this letter will begin the “Beyond the Walls” quest.
The ‘Beyond the Walls’ quest was different from others – it didn’t show up on my list of objectives in the game. I could only start it by going to the right place and finding a letter.

To finish this, go south to Hanazono Castle. When you arrive, listen for enemies talking about the person they’ve captured. Your next goal is to help rescue Ada, who is being held captive.
Help the captive
Okay, so I finally made it to the castle. Once I went inside and took out the bad guys, my quest marker updated, and it showed me exactly where Ada was being held. After I got to her, I helped her finish escaping. As soon as she was safe, Ada told me about a plan to rescue Gautwin. The game gave me a few options to read through, and then I clicked ‘I’m ready to follow Ada’ to move things forward.
This automatically completes the Beyond the Walls quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
