How To Complete Werner’s Test Run In Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, it carries on the series’ habit of concealing crucial unlockables within seemingly ordinary side missions. You might find yourself chasing after an ordinary beast one moment, only to stumble upon a hidden game feature the next, which you weren’t aware existed.

As an avid adventurer in Wilds, I can’t help but share my excitement about one particular optional quest: Werner’s Test Run. Completing this mission will grant you access to a game-changing new battle mechanic – hunting assistants! If you’re having trouble locating the quest or figuring out how to complete it, look no further as I guide you through the ins and outs of Werner’s Test Run. Enjoy the journey!

How To Start Werner’s Test Run

To participate in Werner’s Test Run, you must complete the main campaign and reach the ending credits on Low Rank. Additionally, at first, you won’t have a map location for Ruins of Wyveria, where Werner is found. Instead, you’ll need to advance through multiple missions in Chapter 5 before being granted permission to revisit the Guardian-filled ruins once inhabited by the Wyverians.

Upon your return to Wyveria, you’ll spot Warner at the base camp with a quest indicator above his head. Approach him to learn about his new invention; afterwards, visit Alma, the quest giver, and accept the mission “Werner’s Test Run” in the ‘Optional Quests’ section. Stock up on your potions, enhance your gear, and prepare yourself for an exhilarating hunt ahead!

How To Complete Werner’s Test Run

In the town of Wyveria, you’ll be embarking on a straightforward mission known as ‘Guardian Doshaguma’, but there’s an intriguing twist: Werner has a new invention – a multi-stage explosive device – hidden somewhere in Wyveria, and he needs your assistance to test it out during the Guardian Doshaguma encounter.

To achieve this, just entice the monster towards where Werner is stationed. This can be done by engaging the monster in combat and then making a dash towards Werner, or by shooting a decoy device at the monster so it remains focused on you. Once you reach Werner, he’ll grab his bomb and move into the heart of the battlefield. Now’s your time to test out your latest gadget!

If you’re having difficulty locating Werner, look for the mini figure standing beside a barrel explosive on the map.

Werner’s multi-stage explosion is a precursor model of a barrel bomb, capable of being triggered multiple times, growing stronger with each detonation, and ultimately culminating in a massive final explosion.

There are several methods to set off the bomb. One approach is to lure the monster into attacking by positioning yourself next to the barrel bomb and swiftly moving aside as it assaults. Another option is to fire slinger ammunition at it when it comes close, which will also cause the bomb to explode.

When the Guardian Doshaguma is close to its barrel, aiming with a long-range weapon such as a bow or bowgun should be relatively straightforward for you.

Actually, all you need for this side mission is to track down the creature called Doshaguma, the Guardian. However, it’s an excellent opportunity to hone your skills with the multi-step explosive feature as well!

The strategy here is to detonate numerous small charges on the Doshaguma, as each minor impact boosts the power of the ultimate, massive explosion. Proper utilization can result in this device unleashing an exceptionally destructive force.

After successfully defeating Doshaguma, your mission ends and you gain access to Werner as a hunting aid in Wysteria. Occasionally while hunting, you may encounter Werner and his multi-stage bomb. You can use this device just like during the side quest whenever Werner is present, and you can check if he’s there by looking at the Environment Overview on your map.
