How To Control Party Members in Metaphor ReFantazio
In Metaphor: ReFantazio, you’ll acquire command over your characters as they unleash their Archetype abilities. For instance, Strohl starts off as a guest character, engaging enemies with his sword, but during the showdown with Captain Klinger in the mines, he transforms into a controllable team member. This transformation occurs when he awakens to the Warrior Archetype, making him playable from that boss fight onward.
After defeating Captain Klinger and exiting Akademeia, a message will appear informing you that you now have the ability to command your allies during battle. This is made possible through the distinctive combat systems of Metaphor: ReFantazio. Now, you can take control over each party member’s actions by utilizing the on-screen buttons for various main actions.
- Melee: Use your melee weapon against a single target.
- Archetype: Use a skill from your character’s currently equipped Archetype.
- Item: Use an item from your supplies.
- Guard: Temporarily raise defenses while active.
- Pass: Pass the turn to an ally.
Additionally, you have the option to switch the focus of your attacks using the left and right keys. Meanwhile, the up and down buttons allow you to adjust your formation. Some enemy attacks are position-dependent, so this feature can help you dodge effectively. Lastly, if you require advice on the optimal strategy, the Assist mechanic offers a suggestion that you can choose to follow or ignore.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Party Tactics
If you’d like your allies to take action independently, simply press the right joystick on your gamepad or hit key number 3 on your keyboard to activate the automatic battle mode. This way, they’ll behave based on their preset strategies.
To access these strategic settings during combat, simply press the LB/L1 button on your gamepad or the Tab key on your computer keyboard. Another option is to navigate to the main menu, choose Party, and then select Tactics by pressing the X/Square button or H key.
