How to Counterattack in Silksong (Cross Stitch Ability Location)

While the fighting in *Hollow Knight: Silksong* is straightforward, you can make it more interesting by combining attacks with special skills. Early on, you’ll learn to deflect, a tricky move that stops enemy attacks using Hornet’s needle. Later, you’ll unlock the Cross Stitch ability, which lets Hornet not only block attacks but also quickly strike back with a strong counterattack. Here’s how to get it.

How to Get Cross Stitch Ability in Silksong (Parry & Counterattack Skill)

In *Silksong*, players can learn the Cross Stitch ability-which lets you parry and counterattack-by defeating a special boss called the Phantom Boss. You’ll find this boss inside the Exhaust Organ, a mid-game area you’ll explore while heading to the Citadel to start Act Two.

Players begin their adventure in Greymoor and need to travel to Sinner’s Road, entering through the top-right corner. From there, navigate the swampy, muckroach-filled lands of Sinner’s Road until you reach the top-left area. This path will then lead you into a place called The Mist.

The Mist is a unique area in *Silksong* without a traditional map, making it easy to get lost in a repeating loop. To progress, you need to locate a group of white fireflies and play the Needolin near them. This will cause the fireflies to fly towards an exit, which you can then follow.

Players must repeat this process in a few more areas to escape The Mist and find the entrance to the Exhaust Organ. This area is mostly open, with a small opening that leads deeper into the Exhaust Organ.

Once you enter the Exhaust Organ, you’ll need to climb and jump to reach the area where you’ll fight the boss. Start by moving forward and carefully climbing the hot, steaming exhausts.

When you reach the top, you’ll enter the boss room and the fight with the Phantom will start. She’s small and moves quickly, making her a difficult target. Players will need to dodge her fast attacks and strike when they have a chance to defeat her quickly.

After you beat the Phantom, a special scene will happen where you have to hit the action button at the right time to block the Phantom’s attack and deliver the final hit. Once you win the battle, you’ll instantly get the Cross Stitch ability in *Silksong*.

This is a great skill for players who prefer a more cautious playstyle and enjoy timing blocks or parries in other games.

Once you defeat Phantom, the location of the Exhaust Organ will appear on your map. But to see it, you’ll also need to have the maps for both Sinner’s Road and Bilewater.
