How to Craft Weapons in Duckside

As a seasoned survivor who’s seen the harsh realities of Chernarus and the screeching ducks of Duckside, I can confidently say that crafting your first weapons is crucial for survival. Just like the early days of DayZ, you’ll want to gather resources and learn the ropes quickly.

When I initially began playing Duckside upon its launch, I found myself on the shoreline, getting whacked repeatedly from behind with a baseball bat as I adjusted my settings. This ruthless environment instantly brought back memories of DayZ and Rust. Just like those survival games, Duckside doesn’t coddle you. To thrive in this game, learning to craft weapons is crucial, especially since the shrieking ducks (a metaphor for other players) pose a significant threat.

Initially, press the ‘Tab’ key to access your inventory, and then look for the ‘Crafting’ section at the top of your HUD. In this area, you’ll find various items you can create, organized into categories. The category labeled ‘Weapons’ includes some valuable early-game tools for surviving the archipelago. Immediately, focus on obtaining a baseball bat. Although it’s referred to as a wooden club, it functions as a baseball bat. It might be challenging to strike enemies, but when you do, it inflicts significant melee damage.

Go ahead and select any weapon blueprint that suits you from the options given, and at the base of the menu, you’ll find the required crafting materials. In the snapshot provided, I’m creating a Shorty – a compact double-barreled shotgun ideal for close-range fighting, which requires 90 Metal Fragments and 120 Wood. Acquiring these crafting resources isn’t particularly difficult, as long as you can avoid confrontations during the collection process. For Metal, you can dismantle components at a recycling station.

When you’ve gathered all the necessary materials for crafting your weapon, look for the ‘Crafting’ button located at the bottom right corner and click on it. The crafting process does take some time to finish. However, having a workbench will expedite this process and open up more possibilities for you as well.

Choosing Your First Weapon in Duckside

I already mentioned that you should craft the wooden club—a baseball bat—as soon as you have enough wood. You can harvest the necessary 100 Wood from any tree in the game world, and it won’t take long to accumulate that much. It’s the most basic melee weapon you can craft.

Moving forward, you might need something offering wider coverage. The Bow is simpler to fabricate compared to the Crossbow, as it calls for just Wood and Rope. In contrast, the Crossbow demands Metal Fragments, Wire, and a Workbench. Furthermore, Arrows can be easily made using Wood and Stone, resources that are abundant in this world.

After establishing a base and obtaining a workstation, construct a Shorty. In times of need, the double-barrel shotgun can protect your hide! (In this version, “feathers” have been replaced with “hide”, which is a more common term for protection or safety.)
