PEAK just got a big update called ROOTS, completely changing the Tropics area into a dangerous new zone filled with fungus. This fungus is nasty – it can turn your friendly scouts into zombies! One of the new challenges in the ROOTS update is earning the Undead Encounter Badge, which requires you to recover from a zombie bite. We’ll show you how to get bitten, how to cure yourself, and what you’ll earn for being so brave.

How to Spawn Zombies and Get the Pumpkin Head Cosmetic
If you get bitten by a zombie in PEAK, you can heal yourself by eating a Medicinal Root or a Mandrake. You’ll usually find these plants in the ROOTS biome – they look like carrots with green leaves. Just be careful! Mandrakes will make a loud scream if you don’t eat them quickly enough. Once you’ve eaten either plant, your Spores meter will stop increasing, meaning you’re cured!
Want to become a zombie in solo play? Head to the ROOTS biome. You’ll eventually encounter the Looker – a fungal, orange scout – who will attack and bite you. You’ll know you’ve been infected because the Spores meter next to your stamina will start increasing. If you don’t treat the bite, your stamina will eventually drop to zero, and you’ll turn into a zombie.
If you manage to heal from a zombie bite, you’ll receive the Undead Encounter Badge. This badge will appear on your sash and also unlock the Pumpkin Hat as a fun cosmetic item.
Once someone becomes a zombie in the game, they’re considered dead and cannot be healed, either by you or anyone else.
