How to Deconstruct Buildings & Cancel Construction in Frostpunk 2

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours under my belt, I must say that Frostpunk 2 has certainly piqued my interest and challenged my strategic skills. The game offers a refreshing take on city-building survival games, boasting impressive upgrades from its predecessor. However, one aspect that has left me scratching my beard (yes, I’m quite the elder statesman of gaming now) is the construction system.

In essence, Frostpunk 2 represents an enhanced version of the original, boasting numerous modifications that set it apart. A great deal of sincerity and love were poured into this project, which is evident in its execution. The game offers a well-organized, yet dynamic user interface, improved graphics, abundant resources, innovative pathing systems, and much more.

One issue that some gamers have expressed concerns about is the details surrounding building and potential errors in construction, specifically the option to halt or undo construction. While it’s understandable that mistakes can occur during the building process, the game does provide players with a certain degree of flexibility when it comes to rectifying these errors.

Can you Cancel Construction in Frostpunk 2?

It turns out, once you’ve initiated the process for districts and buildings, there’s no option to back out. Once you make your selection, control is relinquished, and you won’t be able to halt the construction of that building or district, regardless of whether you’re prepared to pay a fee for it.

When building a district, you have the flexibility to revise your initial planning stage. Upon starting to construct a district, you’ll find yourself choosing the tiles for the district allocation. If you make an error in your selection, you can easily correct it by right-clicking. Furthermore, you can halt trails and skyways at any point if you decide to alter your plans later on.

From a practical standpoint, the designers’ decision seems unusual, yet they don’t seem to be planning on altering it in the near future. However, players have an alternative option if they make a mistake during construction – they can destroy or dismantle completed buildings.

As a gamer, I must admit that tearing down structures in this game isn’t complicated, but it does ask for a commitment – it consumes time and resources. The silver lining is that dismantling buildings and districts won’t cost me anything extra; instead, I’ll receive some resources back. However, the downside is that this demolition process takes a solid three weeks, and I’ll only get to recover 75% of the original construction cost.

Worry not! When you destroy buildings with cores inside, you’ll get those cores back once the demolition process is finished. So, there’s no need to concern yourself about losing them during the demolition.

Remember that once demolition begins, it cannot be stopped. So, if you unintentionally demolish something, you’ll have to spend an additional three weeks and 25% more resources to rebuild it. Individual buildings within districts can be demolished separately, but they will automatically be demolished and return the necessary resources to the player when the entire district is demolished.
