How To Defeat Ghost Master In Where Winds Meet

In Where Winds Meet, you’ll face more than a dozen powerful World Bosses, each with unique abilities and strategies. Once you’ve cleared the poisonous fog around Mistveil Forest, you can discover and battle a World Boss in that area.

The Ghost Master controls battles from afar using a special crimson umbrella, and specializes in possessing others. We’ll guide you through this boss fight, explaining how to dodge every single one of her attacks.

Ghost Master Boss Location

You can find the Ghost Master in the northeast section of Mistveil Forest in Keifeng. However, you’ll need to complete the quest ‘The Ephemeral Blight’ and clear the fog first. The quest begins when you attempt to enter the forest.

Ghost Master Fight Walkthrough

The Ghost Master starts the battle by creating two umbrellas and throwing them at you in a sweeping motion. These umbrellas will follow your movements, making them difficult to dodge, so it’s best to deflect them instead.

The Ghost Master attacks with her umbrella in close combat. Her first attack is a quick swipe from left to right, which is hard to block, followed by a slower swipe from right to left that’s easier to block. After seeing it a few times, you’ll be able to block both parts of the attack without much trouble.

After the first attack, she swiftly turns and delivers three quick strikes with her umbrella. Because the timing between each strike is consistent, you can block all three using the same defensive move.

The Ghost Master has another attack where she spins and extends her umbrella, hitting enemies three times as it circles around her. Although it looks similar to her close-range attack, the timing for blocking it is different, so pay close attention.

Okay, so the Ghost Master has this red attack that looks a lot like her regular umbrella swings, but it’s way sneakier. Instead of finishing the combo normally, she vanishes! Then, she pops up right behind you and comes rushing forward. The trick is to parry that final dash – nail the timing and you can hit her back!

The Ghost Master uses a golden attack that makes her vanish repeatedly – usually one to three times – before she reappears and attacks. You can only predict when she’ll reappear by paying attention to the sound that plays with the attack, so listen carefully and be ready to dodge.

During this part of the fight, the Ghost Master’s biggest weakness is an attack where she floats backward and creates a bunch of small umbrellas. She’ll then shoot these at you one after another, and finish with a quick dive attack.

Okay, so dealing with those umbrella attacks isn’t too bad – I can actually parry them pretty easily and it really drains her Qi. Just watch out for that final dive attack she does after the umbrellas, though. There’s a bit more of a pause between the umbrellas and the dive, so it’s easy to get caught if you’re not paying attention!

Phase 2

During Phase 2, the Ghost Master switches from her fast umbrella attacks to slower swipes. When she begins to swing, you have a small window to get in one attack before blocking the first hit, and then another attack before the second hit connects.

As the phase begins, she’ll call forth four spirits to attack you. Once you defeat them, they’ll leave behind circular zones that inflict the ‘Possessed’ status, briefly freezing you and making you vulnerable to a guaranteed hit from the Ghost Master.

If you take too long to defeat the spirits, the Ghost Master will automatically take control of your character, so it’s important to act fast. Weapons that hit multiple enemies at once are particularly effective in this situation.

The Ghost Master now quickly swings her umbrella twice before leaping into the air and bringing it down with force. This is followed by a second impact a short time later. To avoid being hit twice, move out of the area quickly.

As the fight goes on, the Ghost Master will move towards the middle of the arena and start summoning spider lilies that explode upon impact. The most effective way to handle this is to stay still and parry the energy waves as they approach, only moving if a spider lily is about to land right on you.

Successfully blocking a few of this attack’s strikes will inflict a good amount of Qi damage on the boss.

Okay, so this fight is tough, but totally doable. If you’re struggling, seriously, summon Yi Dao! He’s a lifesaver because he can pull the spirits’ attention away from me, which gives me some breathing room and keeps me from getting overwhelmed.
